Full HD TV fitted with a DVD player?

Well I did say "almost expected" so I have get-out clause
I think you might have to provide some back up for your claim though, I think it's far more likely that people don't expect a DVD player in their TV - my anecdotal evidence is that none of the 3 TVs I have bought in the last 2.5 years have included a DVD player (2 Panasonic, 1 Samsung).
And as a bit of non-anecdotal evidence, John Lewis have 99 TVs on their website a a quick scan suggests that not one of them includes a built in DVD player. Richer Sounds have 172 TVs, of which a grand total of 2 feature a DVD player.0 -

That's not my pointIf people buy a TV with no VHS, DVD or Bluray player then that's fine! But OP is concerned about why a HD TV only has a DVD player and not Bluray! They aren't talking about a bog standard TV with no frills like you are. So I'm not talking about those types of TVs!
I'm talking about TVs which have either VHS, DVD or Bluray capability! And I think that ones with DVD capability are more cost effective than those with Bluray, as outlined in my post!
That's an educated guess in fairness, but I think it might be right! I am not motivated enough to get proof.
Hence why my "almost expected" comment gives me a bit of a get out clause with your reply, but also makes a bit of sense.... because technology moves so fast and DVDs are currently (in my opinion) the most popular source of media (not counting live streaming). If a manufacturer is going to install either a VHS, Bluray or DVD player into a TV then it is probably no contest.0 -
Not only do people NOT expect a DVD player as part of their TV, I think anyone who does would have a hard time finding a good quality TV from a major manufacturer which included one!
What people expect these days is bigger screens with ultra thin profiles. Integral DVD/Blu-Ray players severely restrict such slimness.
The days of physical media (discs) are surely numbered anyhow with downloads and live streaming becoming more and more available to SMART TVs.0 -
Why? Are you saying a DVD can't provide full HD?
DVD discs are a standard definition (SD) medium.
Blu-Ray discs are a High Definition (HD) medium.
There are also 4k discs Ultra High Definition (UHD).
Only the latter two display full HD (or better)I imagine it's a lot more expensive than putting a dad player in a cheap tv.0 -
The reason they include DVD players is because Blu-Ray hasn't really taken off like DVD''s did. Most people will have DVD's and now that steaming services are taking off people are less likely to buy Blu-Ray discs.
Also people don't really know that Blu-Ray players can also play DVD's so it might put them off.
But personally I wouldn't want any built in disc player on a TV used in one place. The only time they are good is in caravans and tents where they are moved a lot which is quite a limited market.0 -

I'm sure the poster will be back soon to say that you can put full HD video files onto a DVD and play them in most modern DVD players. You can even put 4k video files onto a DVD disc but I don't know of any DVD players that would be powerful enough to play them.0
