Restaurants - please ask who gets the tips

    However, there is no blanket approach to this and I made no assumption. In some restaurants waiting staff keep their tips, and they are not shared with others.

    10% is the accepted amount for decent service. For outstanding service I will give 20% for poor service I will give either less than 10% or sometimes nothing (if the service is very poor).

    In terms of the standards of living of all of its citizens it is.

    Until Obama there was hardly any medical treatment for the poor, it's still very basic.
    We have homeless sleep in the streets here - they have families sleeping in tents/cars.
    I think the annual leave is about 2 or 3 weeks in most jobs per year.

    No we are streets ahead of the US.

    It's harder work being waiting staff and is a more skilled job than someone who works in a shop.

    You have to remember the tips also go to people in the kitchen as well e.g trained cooks etc.

    Who says its harder? Is there proof of this somewhere? They all get paid at least NMW and likely the chefs will be on more. Why should I pay extra when I don't get that in my retail job which I work bloody hard at!
