Virgin Media Enquiry Turned into an installation that was not approved!

Options
I was wondering if you could advise on the following dilemma.

After watching your shows and regullarly getting your emails we took your advice and enquired about getting a better deal with Virgin Media instead of having BT and Sky at home. We made the enquiry at the ideal home show where one of the Virgin staff took our contacts details and address and were told someone would be in touch(no bank details were handed over).

After some consideration we decided not to go with Virgin and told them this. However Virgin decided to come and install Virgin Media anyway whilst we were not even at home! Virgin had installed cables in our front garden without our permission. They had drilled a hole though our garden wall and chipped the brick on the inside area, stood on the plants, run cables along the wall in an unsightly manor, left plastic gloves all over the drive, along with our dust bins which they pulled out of their way. All this mess and damage for something we don't want and quite clearly have told Virgin on more than one occasion to cancel as we didn't agree to it.

We had cables running up the outside of the wall too. These are covered and at this stage we cannot see what the damage to our wall on the out of our property is as their is a cover over the cables.

Clearly the bricks, pointing between the bricks and the plants have now been damaged. To just remove the cables will not fix the damaged that the company has caused, nor will it repair the way we now think about the service Virgin media given. We have been loyal to the Virgin brand for a long time. We have Virgin credit cards, travel insurance and have used the Virgin wines and have always had good customer service. The reason we chose not to go ahead with the broadband was due to a staff member not calling when he said he would and also reading the poor customer reviews. Now after what we have just experienced I think we was wise not to go ahead. I just wish that I was at home when the installation guys called so I could have put a stop to them before they caused the damage to the wall and garden.

Since then several guys have been over to remove the cabling but still have not properly repaired the damage each time promising to come back and finish the repairs or email with next steps but this has not happened. I now don’t want them to start repairing the wall but we are looking for compensation as this has been going on for 4 months. What would be a reasonable amount to ask for compensation in this instance?

Martin does not live on this users forum .

Quantify your losses in the first instance . As you are refusing the repair from them they may reject .Reasonable amount on top of the repair cost would be circa £30- £50 .
  • Virgin was installed while you were out, they never sent you a contract and just randomly showed up to do the install? I don't believe a word it.
