Broadband Only, No Landline

Hi All,

I am looking to save money on broadband.

Currently I have the Big Bang Virgin Media package. Problem is, I don't use the landline (or even have a phone!), and don't watch the tv (we watch netflix etc), but not live tv and don't even make use of the tivo box.

Does broadband with no landline exist? I hate paying the £17.99 a month seemingly for nothing.

I have done searches but everything leads to a dead end, any help or experience would be fantastic! Thanks!

Broadband without a phone line doesn't really exist yet, but it will soon. Vodafone are advertising a no-line rental fibre broadband service, but they still give you a phone line, so the line rental is just hidden in the overall cost of the broadband service. Still not a bad price of £25/month for 38mbps.

Once fibre is more common, you'll be able to buy broadband with no phone line.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

    VM BB only exists

Click the BB only tab. £32.25 and going up.

But you will still pay for this data line that is no longer just a phone line .
  • Thanks all, I had a feeling that might be the case!

I'll have to get on to Virgin and see what else they can offer then :)

    Thanks again, Gem

The "line rental" will still always be needed. Whether it's a single, mroe expensive charge for broadband or two seperate charges, you still need to pay for the maintenance and repair of the line to your home. It matters not the material it is made of (copper of fibre), it and the equipment it connects to, to allow you internet access cost money to maint and fix.

Yes, getting the internet to your home will have to be paid for somehow.

Perhaps we'll go from taking a land line and having free broadband to having a free (incoming only; pay for calls) line when you pay for broadband.

Sure, but expect to pay around £15-20 a month more for "just broadband" than you do now ;)

This is what those demanding broadband only fail to realise.

.....and when calls, tv, sports, movies and mobiles are added to the package it makes it all the more confusing.

The key is to total the whole lot before you compare prices and ensure you use more than one supplier so they cannot hold you to ransom.

Watch out for 12, 18 and 24 month deals because they can affect the way you negotiate new bundled deals.
