Looks like a laminated bit of wood? If it is scrape off the majority of it with a stanley blade (saying this to see if its removed the top layer and as such wont be able to use the stanley blade) and then you can get something called 'sticky stuff remover' used to use it when pricing and always had fantastic results.
Looks like a bottle you would see from art attack.0 -
Wonder wipes from somewhere like B&Q a bit pricey at about 8 quid but cheaper than a new table and you can use them from other things around the house.0

Thanks everyone. You can actually scrape it off so will maybe try some things that's been mentioned. Think it looks bad now as we tried the vinegar, wd40, then soapy water & the residue looks bad.0

I'd put a warm water bottle on it to soften up and then scrape gently with an old credit card. Then try any of the above ideas to get the last of the residue off.
I also get good results using crunchy peanut butter on sticky gunks; might be another option for you! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Just try Mr Sheen polish.... works to get labels off.0

You can buy a spray can of label remover (the brand I use is Pro-Elec). It's absolutely amazing stuff. I work in retail so we often have sticky price label marks left on products, sellotape marks from posters on walls and furniture etc. One spray, leave it a minute and wipe off. Some light rubbing is all that's needed on very difficult marks but it leaves no residue at all. It has literally saved me hours of scrubbing during my lifetime. And it has a lovely lemony smell!0

IMHO - while it's still dry, as suggested, use an old credit card to scrape away that residue (you need something softer than the table, but harder than the residue, credit card is probably your best bet, or a small scrap of plywood, wooden chip fork, wooden coffee stirrer etc). Take your time and work from the edges and it'll eventually go away.
If you're working on a patch that's wet, use sellotape or gaffa (duct) tape. Wrap the tape sticky side out around your fingers and dab - don't smear - the residue off. Again work from the edges to break that big area down bit by bit
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
