Morning Everyone. Well it is the last day of August. I think it has gone quickly.

JackieO I always do eat before I go shopping. I always do a list too I have done for ages. As I age and become forgetful I need the list to make sure I do not forget anything.

Managed to get a few reduced items yesterday which I either place in freezer or use within a few days.

I got my first £2 coin in change.

Have a good last day of August.

    £2 Coins saved = £2 - Food/drink on holiday

  • I have different savings accounts for different goals. I usually rotate through them adding money as the year progresses. It keeps me from being confused about what money is for what and I can see how much more I need to save for the year's goals I've set out. I live in a small town so it's not hard to get around to the banks and CUs to make deposits. It works for me.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Morning Everyone and welcome to September.

This is the month where the weather gets colder and the nights begin to draw in (which they have done already). We will also now be bombarded with loads and loads od adverts or offers for that thing that happens in December that begins with C.

Personally I think advertising and the shops should hold off until October.

Never overspend on Christmas it is just one day - and it has become to me a way which shop companies can make a lot of money out of you.

We as a family budget £10 per person. My daughter will get more but she no longer loves at home and has a job.

When she was growing up I used to tell her that I would buy what I could afford. So she made a list.

Happy first of September - No savings in the pot today.

I have just done my monthly accounts and I have had more money coming in than out. This does not always happen.

I have moved a few pounds to both my ISA and savings account. They are only small amounts as I know I will not be tempted too touch the account .

Remember Charity Shops are great for bargains
Look out for vouchers to reduce your shopping bill

I was brought up with a similar ethos (not comping or surveys though, I hate to hand my data over on a plate!) but realised by the time I hit my late 30s that despite these tactics I still have far too much stuff. This is because the strategies all relate to saving on spending, and also I didn't restrict the wants sufficiently (I still have the same mentality, but only in chazzers. I see this as giving :)).

Now I get strangely happy when stuff runs out rather than accrues. A NSD means precious time I haven't wasted in a retail environment.

    May I join in?

Other may have heard about this device of mine before but it bares repeating here. Free from a charity shop because it was broken and needed a small amount of mending I got a 'century saver' so called because when it is full it holds £100. It consists of 3 tubes - one holds 20ps; another holds 50ps; and the third holds £1s. At the end of each week I empty my pockets and purses and load the 'Tilly Tidies' (left over monies) into these tubes. It is quite a thrill to watch it mount up - and for many years it has provided Christmas money and holidaymoney in a painless manner. Also all copper Tilly tidies are saved and put into a big pot, which, when full, is emptied and bagged up and exchanged at a bank - usually this takes about 6 months and yeilds about £5 - ok not a lot but I can feed myself on £5 per week if needed!! :D

VfM4meplse - thanks for the reminder !!! :A As I am back from hols am trying to get back into frugal ways and NSDs are the way to go for me!! Will start counting them as from 1st Sept onward.

Todays money saving was some YS stuff. So no monies in pots till next Friday. Will report back on how much Tilly Tidies I end up with! This week it was £1.65.
    Nite all
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

Thanks VfM4meplse for posting. The savings part was from my childhood days - the entering comps and surveys I things I do.

Competitions - Data wise they probably do collect it but then once you do anything on a laptop/PC your data is everywhere anyway - I always make sure I tick the box that does not pass my details on to 3rd parties. I have won some great prizes over the years which I not have been able to afford otherwise.

Surveys - I do these to either have payment of money or vouchers which just help me with buying things I want need. Sometimes I am sent things to test which I get to keep.

I think everyone has too much stuff. I only buy what I need nowadays. The thing that saddens me is my much beloved stuff will become 'junk' to my loved ones when I depart this world.

When I run out of something I love buying it a bargain price.
I have bought things from charity shops - less nowadays as some charity shops price there goods too high and I can buy a new item from elsewhere.

Today will be an NSD for me today. So will make a saving there.

Went out yesterday for the day would have liked to wonder around the shops but as it was pouring down with rain - we just went straight to Dobbies garden centre for lunch - I was out celebrating my wedding anniversary - it was on Friday but hubby was working.

Dobbies have a card which is £12 a year. You get your membership money back though through the year as they give you 2 free teas and coffees each month and when it is your birthday you get free scones and a pot of tea for two worth £8. When you buy anything from either the store or the cafe you earn points too.

    Have a good Sunday everyone.
