    Hi everyone,

My plans for the week went awry very quickly but in a good way. I was supposed to have a quiet week in the Yorkshire house while DH spent the time at work in London. Instead DD said she was judging a cocktail competition in Manchester and she'd come up afterwards, so she was here until yesterday afternoon. It was lovely to have the time alone with her and we managed a couple of good walks in the sunshine. It's raining now but hopefully will brighten up again tomorrow, DH is coming back tonight.

I went to Empress Mills in Colne to look at fabrics. It's a great place but could do with being organised, it's difficult to get to some of the stuff but I will be back now I've seen the range of things they have. I bought some lightweight denim, and some fabric for a quilt plus a few little things.

I need to tidy round today and then I'll do some sewing, I brought my small machine up with me. I also have some hand sewing with me for whenI'm watching TV.

Lainey, I agree with Rosyred. If you're able to leave work, I was lucky enough to be able to give in my notice when dad became very ill and it made life so much easier. It's a stressful enough time without having the added pressure of a toxic job.

    Have a good day.

    Good morning everyone

DD16 is up and gone to her school to pick up her GCSE results this morning. Fingers crossed she has passed them so she doesn't need to resit them. She was a bit weepy this morning just through nerves but she has gone with her friend so they can celebrate / console each other as needed. Good luck to any other kids picking up their results today.

I am not sleeping very well, I think it's the heat even though I have a fan running all night. I want to get into a better sleep pattern before the children go back to school as I like to see them off and make sure they have breakfast. They only have another 11 days left before term starts. It has gone very quickly but I confess I absolutely love September as it feels like a fresh start and there are lots of possibilities.

I was inspired to cook a roast chicken dinner for tonight after watching Eat Well For Less. I've ordered a shop to come from Tesco this afternoon so will crack on with it once it has been delivered. GBBO was really good too, DD16 wants to do some baking from watching it.

Hubby seems to be on the mend thankfully, he is going to cut the grass this afternoon and take the dog out for a walk. The girls have been walking Max but hubby has missed the chance to clear his head whilst out walking. He has the hospital on the 31st to see a consultant and then we shall see what happens.

Csarina, I hope you can sort out your DH's healthcare without it taking too much out of you.
Lainy, sending you a hug for you and your mum.
Coxy, fingers crossed that your husband hears about his job today.
JackieO, I expect you are on your way back now. I'm glad you had a great holiday with your family and that the weather was good.
Tru, I love reading about Scampi's adventures, I think you have done an amazing job with him.

Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

JackieO: I've been reading your posts for yesterday where you make such lovely comments about the people and life generally on the Island.
It reminded me of the story about the traveller who stopped to rest outside the town he was approaching.
Soon a gloomy looking chap came from the direction of the town and the traveller asked him, "What is that place like? What sort of folk live there?"
"It's an awful place," the gloomy one replied. "Nothing much happens there and the people are unfriendly, quarrelsome and selfish. You don't want to go there."
While the traveller pondered this damning assessment of his destination he saw another man approaching.
It was a much more cheery individual.
The traveller asked him the same question about the town he was making for.
"Oh, it's a great place," said the cheerful one. "It's full of interesting things to do and wonderful entertainment. The people are so kind and friendly, they just can't do enough for you. You will love it there."

    Here endeth the lesson.

Jackie, I bet your lovely, happy, cheerful family will find every place you visit wonderful

As the Bible and Karma say, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap."

I'll just go and take my dog collar off.

I still have no information as to when/if hubby's friend is arriving.
Honestly, would it hurt him, even if he's unsure what's happening himself, to call/text and say something like "plans not fixed yet, but will keep you posted" ?

Aww, and I was going to go and get Jack's leash to attach to it..... :rotfl:

We cut Jacks walk short yesterday afternoon; even though we waited til the sun had gone round a bit, it was still oppressively hot. We took a bottle of water with us in the basket on the front of the buggy, and a little plastic dish (one of the trays that certain posh dog food comes in :money: ) so that Jack could have a drink as well. We found a few more ripe blackberries within reach and not being "guarded" by stinging nettles, so Mr LW harvested those while I served Jack a dish of water.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Monna, I have a dog collar for sale on ebay, but it's probably a different sort, lol!
LW this is why I didn't change any of my arrangements with the DGC as I had a feeling he'd be like this.
The good news, is that, so far. he has decided not to go to the funeral, this would be a great relief as it means I don't have to see the sister in law who spat in my face at MIL's funeral.

Jackie O - The IOW is like that Eagles song 'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave' most that head to the mainland do come back and settle, but overners are welcome too ;)

Hugs to Lainey and Csarina - hope you both get a break X

Dumpling - hope DD did well, such a nerve wracking time X

We have a house full tonight, so big bowl of creamy chicken pasta and HM garlic bread will be served and a catch up.

My DD has been looking after a friend of MIL's (DD is a dementia carer) and yesterday passed on the sad news that the lady has passed away, she was on of DD,s favourites and she loved spending time with her (some can be a bit violent and nasty, it's the condition, not the people) so we will raise a glass to a lovely lady, who got taken too soon by a horrid illness - MIL is sad, but glad she,s not suffering anymore.

    Hi everyone,

DH got the phone call earlier to say that they won't be taking his application any further as he lacks experience - this after three interviews spread over five weeks. To say he is devastated would be mild. He has been in tears at the end of the garden - wants to keep it away from the children. We have two months money left and there's a real possibility that we will lose our house, we have plenty of equity but nothing is selling round here - a friend is a local agent. He has just gone to sign on. His parents are popping round later and my dad has also paid a flying visit - couldn't have picked a worse day.

DS1 has come out in what looks like disco eczema - all over his back and chest. DH had it in his twenties due to stress so I'm wondering if this is the same thing. Earliest GP appointment I can get is 8th September.

Need to look for a full time job, as mucking around with two part time ones is not going to pay the bills. I need to do something to take the stress away from DH.

  • COXY if you think your DS may have anything other than disco eczema the local pharmacist would be able to tell him if it needs to be sooner than that, it would at least put both your minds at rest until the first available appointment and if it's something that needs dealing with sooner the pharmacist would probably phone the GP surgery and move things on for you, Lyn xxx.

    Hi again :)

Just popped on to say that DD16 passed all her exams with mostly B's and C's so she is very thankful not to have to resit them.

Coxy, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. I can only pray that he finds a good job quickly and that a good one is just around the corner for you too x

I'm in the middle of cooking dinner so I shall be off again. Take care x
  • Oh well done little Miss Dumpling, congratulations both to her and her very proud Mum xxx.
