Held policy 2 years but only 1 year no claims? Help !

Options
Hi wondering if anyone can shed light on this. My insurance was due for renewal this month. I had been with octagon (I know!) but I shopped around and found cheaper, so I let octagon know I wouldn't be renewing and asked them to send me proof of NCB.

It arrived today and despite the dates on the letter stating 2 years that I had the policy it only says 1 year NCB?

I've only been driving a few years, and that was my 1st car insurance so I don't know what is normal. Is it par for the course that the first year doesn't count or what? All my family think I should have 2 years NCB.

I tried ringing customer services but couldn't get through, I will try again tomorrow but I'm going mad with worry because my I have to tell my new insurer that I only have 1year not two and they'll probably cancel my cover :(

You shouldn't get so stressed over admin errors!!

Assuming you completed the whole of the policy year and have never made any claim or had one made against you in the first year, that's what it is.

If they don't quickly issue you a corrected proof then go down their complaints route (with escalation to FOS if you are unhappy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks)

In the meantime forestall any issues with your current insurer by explaining the situation.
  • Thanks, that's calmed me down a bit lol. I'm just new to all this so I was thinking all sorts!

Was the first year a normal policy and not one of these 9 month accelerated things?

Maybe you should change your name to Lionel Overthinkbag? ;)
