Advice on how to approach this issue

Mum would normally do the teacher liason thing, she actually volunteers occassionally at the school, however i feel i am more equipped to get over my concerns on this occassion.
My wife will be seeing both kids into school in the morning, i will be calling at 0900.
And yes im in Scotland !0 -
I think you call the police. You know what happened in Aberdeen, kids with knives.0

I'd be keeping your boy off school until you've had a talk with the school. Have his mum go in with your son to talk to the Head (who will probably want to talk to your son and hear it from him) and get them to conference you into the meeting.0

I agree it's an overreaction to call the police yourself. The school could well involve them and/or other agencies if they think it's appropriate.
Sounds to me like the other boy has had something happen over the summer that he's reacting to. It might be just watching inappropriate films or something real in his home life.
I don't know why you don't think your wife can't explain your concerns to the school but I'd suggest you call before 9 or that your wife takes the children in later in the morning after you've spoken to the headteacher. I wouldn't want to leave him at school until they were satisfied the knife doesn't exist and given assurances that the unwelcome advances were go to be stopped.0 -
If your wife has a good relationship with the school, why would she not be able to deal with this?0

Here's why you call the police:
The school will by policy call the police, as soon as you mention a child with a knife.
The police will arrive and draw attention to the situation by their very presence.
The boy will be removed and then be the centre of all attention and scrutiny.
If you call the police they will likely visit the household prior to school hours and prevent all the extra attention and embarrassment0 -

You need to call the police today. If what your son says is true then there is a very disturbed little boy out there. Mental health issues do not discriminate. They don't care whether someone comes from Bransholme or Knightsbridge. If anything, calling the police will get him the help he needs.
Also, if this boy then turned on my (hypothetical) kid and I found out you'd done nothing about this then I'd be going absolutely ballistic.0 -
Thanks for the responses, I spoke with the office this morning, The Deputy Head called back at lunchtime and informed me that the boy in question has been captured alive by Seal Team Six and it currently on route to Guantanamo Bay. Clearly a few decades of waterboarding will teach the little **** some respect. In addition plastic cutlery will be mandatory at all schools in my council area. Metal Detectors and Polygraph tests are mandatory for those children who wish to attend classes in the future.
In all seriousness though I have been informed that this boy has additional support needs and is already receiving some help with his behavior. The Deputy head assured me he has no knife, and is known due to his issues to brag and make up fantasy stories, they will be addressing it with his support worker and parents.
So that's that - thanks for the opinions !0 -

Funny your wife who volunteers at the school didn't know anything about this additional support that he already receives....0 -

Why would she, volunteering doesnt ordinarily mean she may be privvy to the lads special needs files. Teachers arnt allowed to discuss this and even bringing it up with the father could be seen as a big no no.Funny your wife who volunteers at the school didn't know anything about this additional support that he already receives....,Fully paid up member of the ignore button club.If it walks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, it's a Duck.0
