Go on then, stop teasing, what name is it?0

Do these other children have perfect names and appearances? Is there nothing that can be said to turn the tables on these kids? You can't teach your kids that they have to change to fit in, how far do you go? If a child has a big nose or sticky out ears they have to change their nose and ears so they don't get made fun off?
If changing your children's name is the only option then explain to the teachers the reason why - that your son is being made fun of and is being ridiculed for his name and would prefer to be called by another surname. But the children in the class will still know his original surname unless he changes schools.0 -
Jox, I'm really happy for your input but I'm not really looking to go in the in's and out's of it, obviously we have discussed it at length and have came to the decision that the name change makes more sense now they are young enough. It's also hard to say no when your child asks you nicely if he can change it, I never had the option when I was a kid.0

Yes, I understand where you are coming from as I am in a similar situation with my surname, was just offering another view, good luck with sorting this out for your kids x0

I don't know if that's necessarily true. When I was at school there were kids whose names were changed when parents remarried etc, and they new names took over the old ones pretty quickly. But the children in the class will still know his original surname unless he changes schools.
Plus even if the old name does stick, at least OP's kids will have a new name to take to uni and start their professional lives with.0 -
OP, if you think your surname is so awful, why not change yours and the children's ?0

teddysmum, I'm to old now to worry about it, I'm not going back to school with a load of evil children lol.0

When i was at school we were told it was easier (long term) to get it done officially - so when applying for jobs my ID and exam certificates would have the same names on them... Otherwise it could prompt the need for quizzical looks and explanations... (not so bad as a woman once a little older but as a 16 year old the 'are you married' questions is a little less usual)...
Also when the when the school is called and asked for a reference for Nimbo Smith (as on birth certificate etc) rather than Nimbo Excalibur (as used from mother's remarriage etc) there were no awkward conversations about we don't know Nimbo Excalibur conversations...
PS i'm totally changing my name to Nimbo Excalibur now... Best Name Ever!
