My young son has an ASUS small laptop/netbook model EeePC 1225B with AMD C-60 APU, 4.0 GB, 64 bit operating system.
which he has had couple of years. He has used it really only to play games, go on youtube and watch films etc.
It is really slow now - takes forever to start and because of this he rarely uses it.
He is off to high school soon and will probably need something for homework
so.........
Would it be simple for me to do a factory reset to speed it up again. - i have deleted programmes and things he has installed etc but it hasnt helped.
He has nothing on the laptop that he needs to save.
There is a sticker on the bottom with windows 7 product key.

Thanks MS'Ers for any help / advice

Factory restore depends on model but e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/How-to-Restore-an-Asus-Eee-PC-Netbook-/10000000177771332/g.html

Assuming you restore to Windows 7 SP1 there's a "convenience rollup", in theory making it easier to get most updates since SP1.
    (needs Internet Explorer)

Sadly, another crap design for a user replace-ability point of view. Otherwise I would recommend splashing out on an SSD for that machine. Would make all off the difference for £35 or so.

Can be fitted, it's just more fiddly than those with a dedicated hatch. See here

Might take you fifteen to twenty minutes instead of five to fit, but will definitely be worth it when it comes to performance.

Then a clean install of Windows 7 without any bundled rubbish and it will feel like a completely different machine.

I have the ASUS Windows 7 recovery disc. Don't panic.:)
Think about whether you can afford and to fit an SSD.
The biggest issue with that machine is the poor CPU. Fitting an SSD will make it so that he will want to use it.
It will start up in seconds and he won't be waiting for ages for something to happen.
Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for that particular machine.

thanks niftyDigits - 4.2 gives further instructions on F9 at startup point.
Have now tried this but only giving option of Windows set up (EMS enabled) or Windows memory diagnostic !!

User manual you linked to states it should give system recovery

I told you...it doesn't matter. I have the recovery disc. You just need to make a decision on an SSD.

You can follow the EMS enabled route to see if it leads you to a Recovery partition: http://www.cybernetman.com/kb/index.cfm/fuseaction/home.viewArticles/articleId/232

Have you checked Device Manager to check if the Drivers are installed?
    https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Eee_PC_1225B/HelpDesk_Download/

Is there an Fn switch combination to toggle Wireless on and off? All should be covered in the user manual.
