I got upgraded on a flight with ethiad from Brisbane to Auckland. It was bliss. But walking through premium economy and reading into it the only difference is wider seats, more leg room and the noise cancelling headphones

You'll also get a bigger TV screen, served quicker, on the plane faster and bigger smiles from the staff. On long haul I always go PE. I've found Cathy Pacific out of all the airlines is the best but not the cheapest. I once got upgraded to business from PE too.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Personally I don't think it's worth the extra expense, but it really depends on how much you value the extra legroom. Most airlines that offer PE tend to offer sufficient legroom in economy in my experience.t

On BA the food is exactly the same as economy just served on a plate.

On all my recent flights to/from the US the menu has been the same as economy, when a PE menu option runs out they go back and take from economy so the PE passengers still get their first choice.

Not saying there's anything wrong with this, having recently flown economy on Qatar I now appreciate how good the BA economy/PE food actually is!

In WTP, the main courses are from Club World, the rest of the food is economy (may also get proper cutlery).

The main reason to book WTP is to allow an upgrade to Club. In the last 6 times I've booked WTP I've only flown in it once.

I'd say there is very little chance of a free upgrade just because it's your honeymoon especially if you aren't frequent fliers with BA as Gold and Silver card holders will normally get priority. There will probably be several couple of each flight who have just got married.

Even if WT was overbooked the upgrades to WT+ would go to people with status.

    Not necessarily.

My daughter who has no status has been upgraded on BA twice whereas I am BA gold and have never heard the magic bleep!

I would suggest that if the OP does decide to pay for Premium economy not to raise expectations too high. It is still economy albeit with slightly better legroom and a main course from Club World which in itself, is nothing to write home about.

Perhaps searching for a business class trip from somewhere like Oslo, Copenhagen, Dublin or Amsterdam might be a better option.

We're hoping to go to New York for our honeymoon and want to travel Premium Economy. Experiences of premium economy welcomed. Is it that much better than Economy? We'd be travelling on BA most likely.

Also, what are the realistic chances of an upgrade if they know you're on your honeymoon?
You might not get an upgrade but you might get freebies for instance we got a bottle of champagne (many years ago on BA). Applies in hotels & restaurants too - we got loads of freebies like hotel room upgrades, champagne, free extras with meals etc when you tell them you're on honeymoon. So tell everyone :)
