Premium Economy

We're hoping to go to New York for our honeymoon and want to travel Premium Economy. Experiences of premium economy welcomed. Is it that much better than Economy? We'd be travelling on BA most likely.
Also, what are the realistic chances of an upgrade if they know you're on your honeymoon?

If you just want a bit more elbow room, your own side of a wider arm rest and more leg room, and can get PE for a modest fee it can be great.
BA have just started a sale, so look for good prices, mainly on off peak dates and times. Virgin and others usually follow.
AA, Delta and United offer more extra leg room seats in economy for a fee.
BA and AA don't have economy cabins in a 2-X-2 configuration. Delta, United and Virgin do on some aircraft so consider their extra legroom seats. https://www.seatguru.com has more details.
AA, Delta and United can have old aircraft on some flights with poor IFE in economy so avoid those.
BA has a lot of honeymooners and don't do anything generallyPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Look at fares out of other European cities (Manchester as well as Dublin and so forth). Often the price difference between Y and PE can be less than ten pounds.
And no, there is zero chance of a honeymoon upgrade. You might be able to upgrade using Avios (Airmiles): lots of ways to get hold of these for nothing or for a reasonable price.0 -
Zero chance of an upgrade because you're on your honeymoon. Lot's of people on honeymoon, celebrating wedding anniversaries, milestone birthdays on every flight. Even if WT was overbooked the upgrades to WT+ would go to people with status.0

It's not £250 better than economy. But it is better.
I'd be tempted to look at La Compagnie flights out of Luton. Or price up business class from Dublin, Amsterdam etc.0 -

On some of their longer sector flights and narrow seat Dreamliner flights, it's a bargain.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I have only flown PE once and that was with BA Seoul-London. The only reason we upgraded was because it was only about £90 extra one way. I have to say that it was worth it for the legroom and dining options.0

Personally I don't think it's worth the extra expense, but it really depends on how much you value the extra legroom. Most airlines that offer PE tend to offer sufficient legroom in economy in my experience.
On BA the food is exactly the same as economy just served on a plate.0 -

On all my recent flights to/from the US the menu has been the same as economy, when a PE menu option runs out they go back and take from economy so the PE passengers still get their first choice.PeacefulWaters wrote: »I thought BA offered steak in PE.
Not saying there's anything wrong with this, having recently flown economy on Qatar I now appreciate how good the BA economy/PE food actually is!0 -

I used to be firmly of the view that PE wasn't worth the extra expense, but after a cramped, 14 hr flight from Santiago a few years ago, we decided that if we couldn't afford extra legroom we weren't doing long haul (an arbitrary limit of around 5-6 hours). Flew PE last year with Cathay Pacific, and will be doing the same thing again next year. For us the extra legroom and general comfort is worth the extra expense - it was around twice the price of the economy ticket though, and for two of us cost as much as the rest of the holiday.0
