My talkmobile phone+network contract was ending and I didnt fancy any of the phones they had and my existing phone was dying so I phoned them to cancel the contract in the hope they might entice me with some offer. Instead they just basically said ok and goodbye but you have to give a months notice so I did. They also asked me if i wanted my PAC no, and i said well i want to keep the same no. with whoever I go to yes, and was told it was valid for 30 days. So I started looking elsewhere and found a phone I liked with another phone co but the deal was using talkmobile ie talkmobile are staying as my network. Phone arrived today and I phoned talkmobile to give them my PAC no to keep the same number and they said I can't keep the same no. if I'm transferring from talkmobile to talkmobile, the only way to keep the same no. is to get a payg deal from another network and transfer my existing no to that and then get the PAC no from them and transfer it from them back to talkmobile. How crazy is that, that you can't keep the same no. when you're staying witht he same network? So annoying they didn't explain that to me when I phoned them the first time

So next time you'll know how it works. You'll also discover if you fail to exercise the PAC within 30 days of its issue it will cease and your old contract will continue. Asking for the PAC voided the notice.

Buy a EE sim for a £1 port the number across and port it back.

phoned talkmobile back and they suggested the same thing except I could do it with their free payg sim thereby saving £1. That has cost them to do that besides being a waste of paper and time involved by their staff, this just seems all so crazy and inefficient and I don't understand the need for it

Wait and see if that works. As they told you originally, you can't port to the same network.

Yes, it all sounds a bit crazy, but it's true. I'm not sure how that payg talk mobile will help, as has been said, it needs to be another company. Maybe they just want to string you along so your PAC expires and you will have to ask for another and pay for another months line rental...

They won't allow it because you're getting a new customer deal without being a new customer! It used to be called a 'backdoor upgrade' and the networks don't like them, hence why you have to jump through hoops to get it done.

But it's their game and their rules. . .

Some providers are able to move their payg numbers fairly easily to contracts (without a PAC as no porting is taking place)

It's primarily to move exisiting customers off low value payg to more profitable contracts
