Incurring Garage Storage Charge because of 3rd Party Delays

About 3 weeks ago, the gearbox went on my car. I have a warranty with Gem Warranties, so I gave them a call, and they gave me one of their authorized garages to take it to (it has to be an authorized garage to honor the warranty). But this garage wanted £1700 for a rebuild, and my claim limit is £500!
Naturally, I started looking at other options. I came across a company called Reconditioned Gearboxes who were able to supply me with a brand new rebuilt gearbox for £900. I was told 3-5 day delivery time, but I keep being told there are delays due to staff sickness.
Fast forward 2 and a bit weeks later, and the garage Gem sent me to are getting extremely annoyed because my car has been up on a ramp and they've been unable to do anything with it, and are now threatening to charge me storage.
I want to make Recon Gearboxes pay for the storage charge since it's their fault that I am in this situation (they are over 2 weeks overdue delivery). Where do I stand on this?

How is it Recon Gearbox's fault that you have left your car on another garage's forecourt?
Regardless of the delay, you should have removed your car from the garage on the first day you realised what they would charge was more than you can afford.
I can't see how anyone other than yourself is liable for "storage" of your car.0 -
Trust me, the car is not sitting on a ramp waiting for the gearbox they are telling you porkies.
Your car may be taking up space on the forecourt or it may even be on the public highway but unless you were told and agree to the storage charges they can't just charge you them without first giving you warning and the chance to remove the car.
You may however still have a bill for the work they have done to date but that is a different issue.0 -

However, the issue is that the OP wants the other garage to foot this "bill". Clearly they aren't going to and neither should they have to.
I think they are "threatening" storage charges simply to get the OP to shift his car.You may however still have a bill for the work they have done to date but that is a different issue.0 -

It hasn't got gearbox at the moment, it's in pieces, so it can't move under its own power. Would they really go through the trouble of moving it by hand?0 -

Are they aware that you have decided to have the remainder of the work done elsewhere?
How do you propose to get the car from where it is now to the other garage? Has the cost of this move been factored into the new bill?0 -

The gearbox is being fabricated by Recon Boxes and then delivered to the garage. The garage are then going to install it for me. They said it would be 3 hours labour at £66 an hour plus various oils and bearings and whatnot/miscellaneous bits and bobs. (It has to be done at this garage in order for me to get the £500 warranty claim off Gem)0 -

You still can't expect Reconditioned Gearboxes to foot any other garage's "storage" bill due to delays. They did not guarantee the item would be delivered in that time, only that it was likely to be 3-5 days. All you can do is make RG aware that the car is currently sitting in a dismantled condition and of the urgency.0 -

When I originally ordered it on the 10th, I was told 3-5 days delivery.
I called up on the 15th asking for an update, and they told me the 18th. They couldn't give me a reason for the delay.
I called on the 18th, they told me the 22nd. They still couldn't give me a reason for the delay.
I called today, they told me the 24th. They were finally able to give me a reason that my gearbox was delayed because of "staff illness".0 -
