Virgin V+ box

We had a fault on one of our V+ boxes, Virgin posted out a new box and said there would be a label for collect plus inside, so just pack the old box and take it to the local shop.
We installed the new box but there was no label inside so I called Virgin who firstly said the shop will scan the barcode on the side of the box and it should recognise the account - it did not work so a wasted journey. I called Virgin again who said they would organise a label to be posted, I asked if it could be emailed so I could get it out of the way - answer no, we have to wait for the label and it will take 5 days.
Over 2 weeks later, no label and the box is still sat here, I called again to be told the reason why no label was included as they did not want it back due to being an old V+ box and they only take Tivo back - why I was not told this on the last 2 calls I don't know?
Anyway, I am now concerned if I dispose of the box like she told me to do I could be charged months down the line as I know Virgin are known for this.
Does anybody know if this is the correct advice? Dispose of the box and not send it back as I have always dealt with engineer callouts so this is a new one to me:D
Thanks

Just put it in a cupboard if you're worried it might eventually be required and forget about it.
It's hardly a large item.
Why stress over it?0 -
Is it a samsung v+?0
-
Yes a samsung V+
With regards to storing the box, we struggle for storage space as it is and are trying to declutter to put the house on the market. It is a box which is faulty so why should I have to store it just because nobody knows what they are doing at Virgin Media? I have been given 3 different answers already0 -
They information you where given is correct!
They are only getting customers to return either Tivo 500's, Tivo 1TB's, V HD Boxes, Super Hub 2AC and Super Hub 3's.
Everything else you can through in the bin or the correct saying "take it to the recycling centre"0 -

We eventually took it to the local recycling centre.
I tried putting it on freecycle to see if anyone could use the hard drive etc but freecycle refused to advertise it. I did explain Virgin had told me to dispose of it but they kept repeating it was Virgin Medias equipment.
Ahhh well...I tried.
Thanks everyone.

Agreed. It's an obnoxious thing to do.0
