Slow laptop

I have a laptop, under a year old, it's an Acer aspire e13.

The thing is so slow. First I thought it was just the mouse pad/cursor, but it's start up, load up etç.

I upgraded to the window 10 earlier in the year and can't remember if that was the issue or not

I simply do browsing and word processing on it, I don't have loads of stuff installed or running

It's slow like my old tape amstrad.

**The following assumes that Windows 10 Anniversary Update hasn't been installed recently AND is the cause of your problems. If it may be the problem you have 10 days to revert back to previous (Windows10) build. **

The easy option with Windows10 is to try a refresh install. This will zap any installed programs (e.g. word processor) so best to ensure you have any licenses recorded. And backup data files (just in case).
See "Reset your PC" and then "Keep my files" at
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

If you think Windows10 is the issue then factory restore will put it back to ...how it came from the factory. (guessing Windows8.1). You will NOT lose your 10 license which you can install at any time.

Thanks. I don't want to revert back to 8.1 or have to back up everything if i can help it.

How do I get the anniversary update?

The Anniversary Update is being drip-fed to users (apparently its not compatible with all current Windows10 installations - but I'm not sure about that.)

Note this may make things worse rather than better (but I'm a glass half-empty type of person :-)

"Reset your PC" and then "Keep my files" at the posted link. NB. programs will be removed; ensure you have licenses of important programs. A data backup is still advised.

Are you saying that you don't already have a back up and don't want to bother doing one??
If yes, that I suggest you re-think.

So I've done this update thing

First, the log in page was slow to appear.
When it did, there was no mouse cursor anywhere
Then it said couldn't connect to one drive and to check connection. (I would if I could find the cursor)

So I forced turn off and on. I'm on the date and time page, pressing mouse pad to log on, which log in page is not appearing.

    So far, not good

And I'm sorely close to chucking the thing out the window, given the problems I've had with this laptop and windows over months

Pressing f1 got me go the log in screen
My net connection was forgotten by the laptop and shift wouldn't allow me to choosd the available networks for some bizarre reason.
I connected via The Ethernet cable

I assume it had deleted all my driver's? Hence no mouse?

If I had known I may not have gone ahead so hastily.

Given I have no USB mouse, how do you propose j navigate Acer.com to download all missing drivers to get the cursor back?

The repair is normal after forced power-off. This is heading towards a factory restore...(being the next easiest way to get this laptop back to life.)
