A sky question

Thinking of stopping the sky subscription.

Please could you point me in the direction of which channels I would get once subscription stops.

I understand the record/pause function would cease, is this for all channels? (I mean would it still work for free to air channels?

Thank you

The recording and live pause features of Sky+ will be lost completely when you cancel. If you don't want to lose these, either continue paying Sky or purchase a Freesat PVR decoder.

With a few exceptions and additions , Freesat from Sky provides broadly the same channels as the Freeview service provided by an aerial.
    Google for the full list.

Take the card out the box and you will get a very good idea of what will be available.

Remember that if you cancel Sky totally, you will also lose access to the recordings on your Sky box that came from the channels you stop subscribing to.

So for example you cancel Sky Cinema, none of the movies will play whether you recorded them or downloaded them. Likewise with Sky Sports.

Taking the card out will give a good idea but yes you will lose the Sky+ functionality. However you may get a discount of some sort (typically anywhere between 25% and 60%) and often without losing access to anything by simply phoning up and saying you want to cancel.

I cancelled Sky in June and said all I want to pay is for the broadband i.e. £17.40 per month. They said OK but we will also let you have the TV for nothing, at the time the Sky + wasn't mentioned, so they added £10 per month to my bill. I called and asked for a copy of the call as it wasn't mentioned as far as I was aware, if it was then I would pay it, they said they will call me or email it through. Nothing happened for a month, I then received a call saying they were from the new loyalty department and I could have all the Sky channels apart from sports/movies for nothing. And as I am a loyal customer they would credit my account with £50. I have just checked my bill and they have given me £50 credit but also added another £10 per month to the bill. I know exactly what was said, and this charge was never mentioned so I am going to stop payment and demand they provide an electronic record of both conversations and all my information under the Data Protection Act (or which is relevant). It is such sharp practice, I suspect that the call centres use the dodgiest tactics to get the sales, just like the ones featured on the BBC once. At present I am time rich and cash poor so on the warpath:mad:
  • Don't stop your payment as you may incur a credit default mark until it is resolved.

£17.40 is the line rental and you said you wanted to pay for the broadband, which is £10 (price when taken with line rental); hence the £10 on your bill, which is not for tv.

Purchased a Freesat box - delighted with it. Can't understand why I didn't cancel Sky sooner, I only had the basic package costing £22.50 per month, Freesat box cost £189, only 8.5 months worth of Sky subscription.

AND you can still use the Sky box, maybe in a second room (keep the card in for SOME channels), or sell it for a few quid.

We have two Freeview boxes and going back to using them (one is used on the bedroom set) wouldn't be a problem.

The only reason we have Sky Original is that it only costs £5.83 a month (with the 50% off plus £50 credit considered). If they don't offer a good deal in October, it will be back to Freeview.

+1 on that and weirdly I get a better picture on the Humax box than the Sky box.
