    hi

i too have the new NUS extra card and also noticed this offer. 3 times now i have tried to take it up and 3 times ive had problems, 2 of which i have not got the offer ans have had to purchase a full priced meal.

take your booklet with you so you can prove this is the offer. though one of the problems i was told that they didnt take the student card at all as they were 'a franchise', god knows what that was all about and im currently in the process of writing to mcd to find out whats cracking off.

also noticed that HMV are no longer accepting the student card unless you still have your HMV student card with it. i had my HMV card taken when i last used it a few weeks back being told, 'you dont need it now you ahve the extra card'. i realise now this was probably total rubbish and just an excuse to not allow the student discount.

so, just use a little caution and be prepared to fight to use your extra card in some places.

Just to let you know I've not faced many issues with either offer at McDonald's. Sometimes I have to explain the offer, but have never had it refused. Burger King however are more picky on their regular 20% off discount for NUS members, the majority of locations I have been to have refused to accept any discount and they have ignored any mail I sent asking for a list of participating resturants.

This offer is still running but some staff/branches may argue over the exact offer! Just been told that they had to keep the 'voucher' from the booklet nus send out with the card in the Doncaster St Sepulchre Gate branch as they reckon you can only claim this offer once then next time you have to buy a meal and you get a free or McFlurry or soemthing instead but called NUS HO up and told them and they say that the branch got it wrong, fliipping jobsworths!
  • I didn't know I could have been getting free mcflurries! D'oh!

Yeah they have stopped this year, its apparently because they now have no competition on the high street. Like last year both them and Zavvi offered student discount now Zavvi have gone there is no need for them to compete.
  • This year I noticed that there is no mention of a vegetarian alternative in the small print. Has anyone else managed to get a free vegetarian item, such as fries? I don't see why they can't say 'have anything from the £1 menu for free' if the value of what they are giving away is the same. Plus they are ignoring the 7% of the population that is vegetarian, losing a fair bit of custom.

The year before last year I was actually having to give away the free Big Macs I was getting with my meal when I was the only person who paid £10 for a discount card and it was other people who were profiting from this. God forbid they actually give me the £1 they were going to spend on it anyway, they'd just eat two!
