If you had raised the problem at the time with your holiday rep or the hotel management they could have tried to help (bottled water, wipes etc).

By waiting until you got home you didn't give them a chance to help.

I'd put it behind you an move on.
Agreed to a point, though some places don't have regular rep visits, we stayed at a 5 star in Turkey last year, the holiday was through Airtours, there's was no rep service, however, most all have a tour operator board with information on. Hotel management can de a little hit and miss with language barrier.

I didn't mean it in a derotory way, it's just that some things that may be an issue to us aren't to the locals

It's so long since I've booked using a company like Thompson , I forget reps even existed. Back in the day , you were expected to attend a " welcome meeting" which consisted of getting you to book overpriced trips , as has already been said.
Then there was the Victoria wood-esque coach commentary.
I don't miss it I have to say..

My experience over the last few years is that they are sort of giving up on those welcome meetings, the hotel we are in now we've been to several times, always with Thomson, the only time we were invited to a welcome meeting was the first time here, 6 years ago and the only welcome meeting we've been to in more recent times was when we stayed at a holiday village in Tunisia and then it was more focused on what the hotel complex had to offer, signing your kids up to the correct activity groups etc, no hard sell on excursions.
