How to use usb with Win10

I have tried to use a usb memory stick with win10, but there is nothing to select from the list. I have tried 2 different usb sticks in 2 different usb ports, but I the computer does not seem to recognise that I have connected usbs.

Any suggestions?

When you plug in the USB sticks, does Windows start trying to install drivers? Usually there will be notification this is happening in the bottom right area.

I've known the driver installation take a few minutes.

Should be a pop out asking what you want to do with the USB Flash drive. From the bottom right hand side.

Could be your USB's are dud or the ports have been disabled. Plug in your smartphone to see if the port is "on" or not.

I don't know if it still happens in Windows 10, but with previous versions of Windows, devices would sometimes not be mounted (assigned a drive letter).

If you run diskmgmt.msc, the Disk Management console will open and you should see all attached devices and be able to assign drive letters.

If the device is not listed, then it's probably a driver issue.

^^ this, quite probably... I've had similar with several this last week or so, even on drives that have previously been used on that machine...

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Put the USB stick in before turning the PC on, it should detect it on start up.
This works with my multi reader. If I start up normally none of the drives is listed but with an SD card already inserted it finds them all ok.

Ports work with everything else. USBs also work elsewhere.

    No pop-out visible.
