Thanks for all the replies, I called the broker today who have admitted they have just made a massive mistake with the paperwork and couldn't tell me what would happen if I didn't return anything as they've never been in this position before.
It's currently the dealer that's out of pocket as they haven't been paid which I thought was strange but they explained they purchase that many cars through them that they will deliver the car as long as the finance is agreed as normally only takes a couple of days max to get them the funds. He did point out that this !!!! up had probably put an end to that good will!
I have never, ever, heard of a Dealer releasing a vehicle without full payment.
Never heard of any Dealer having "goodwill" allowing a car to be delivered before payment.0 -

If this arrangement has been ongoing for a long time, had lead to several vehicles per week being processed, and has never led to a problem before, then I could understand if such a "goodwill" arrangement was in place ... the broker doesn't have to work with that dealer, so the arrangement has obviously been good for both parties until now.0 -

I can understand if there was some form of "goodwill" between a large fleet buyer and a dealer, such as a large public body.
But I have never heard of any dealer releasing a vehicle without being paid.
A broker is simply a middle man.0 -
I'm not in the business so I have no idea - I merely posed a hypothesis.0

Does the company having delivered the car and handed over the keys suffice in making the OP the "keeper"?0

Doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I would agree that it is a foolish and risky thing to do, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen0 -
