Tesco DDs - using 'apply to all my Tesco accounts' when setting up a DD instruction.

When you set up a DD to move in money to your online Tesco saver accounts you are given the option to apply this agreement to all qualifying accounts.

Has anyone used this? My interpretation is this would create separate DDs for each Tesco account from the same nominated funding account.

So for 2 Tesco savers, a Bank of Scotland funding account would make 2 DD payments (same amount/date) and meet the September requirement.

I set up 3 agreements but do not have time to wait for the 6 DDs and make any amendments to meet the 2/9 deadline, any confirmation most welcome, thanks.

I set up a small DD to each of my Tesco Internet Saver accounts last month from each of my Santander (joint and sole) accounts, and assumed that when it asked me 'would you like to apply these to all your Tesco accounts' that it would automatically do it for both, but it didn't.

What it did was set up the first DD I had asked, but then simply copy the Santander bank info to the second Tesco account so that the details were there in case I ever wanted to set up a DD between those two accounts in the future. To generate a DD mandate, I had to input the amount of the direct debit manually the second time before it created it.

Yes I always use this option as it's handy to have the DDs in place, just in case. There's no issue is some (or all) are never used. On the other hand, it takes seconds to add a DD if needed at a later stage.

Like CJ, I also used this option but the direct debit on the second account wasn't activated. The next time, I manually entered the details in the second account.

Both new direct debits were set for the 19 August, which was shown as the first available date when setting them up. However on checking just now, Tesco have changed the dates to 19 September. On a previous new direct debit, they changed the end date from Until Further Notice to a date sometime in the 2040s.

You need to keep a sharp eye on your Tesco accounts!
  • Thank you very much for the above.

I could see under 'Manage accounts and payees' the mandates set up and then under 'Manage payments' the DDs actually due in.

So hopefully adding the missing payments on dates advised for original DD set up will do it, will keep my eyes peeled.

    Thanks!

Surely the Bank of Scotland DDs can leave anytime in September?

I use this option every time. It just sets up a mandate in each of my other accounts - it does not create a schedule of transfers. But it makes it easier later to set up the amounts and dates on the other account.

It sets up the instruction but doesn't duplicate the DirectDebit on each~ at least it saves 1 extra step for the other accounts
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)

Hopefully, they wanted the DDs set-up by 2/9 which does sound like the Sept interest run, was just being super cautious.

Sounds an unlikely story to me. Tesco won't just shift DD dates willy-nilly. You probably inadvertently selected September 19. But it won't matter - any working day in the calendar month of September 2016 will be fine for the first BOS DDs.

It happens to be true. The direct debits in question weren't to BoS, they were to Tesco current accounts ready for switching. I don't know if you need to have had a first payment taken from a direct debit for it to count as active but I like to have paid the direct debit just in case. So, it does matter to me that it was paid as soon as possible.
