Hi I was wanting some advice. I recently flew with Thomas Cook from Zante to Stansted, the TC fight was delayed 156 minutes due to a flat tyre. (Another TC plane was used for flight as spare tyre was being flown in to Zante from England). This delay made me miss my connecting flight home with Easyjet, I had to pay and extra £160 to Easyjet and wait 5½ hours to get a flight home, I contacted TC and they said they couldn't do anything, is there anything that can be done. All advice appreciated. Thank you

this was 2 separate flight bookings and this is risk that you take with booking separate contracts. You can check your travel insurance but they may not cover a shortish connection on separate tickets
  • I think the crucial element here was whether there was one ticket or two. If one you have a case as the total delay was 3 hours plus, if two (which it sounds like) then probably not, as TC's 'responsibility' ended when you got to Stansted.

Yes both tickets were booked separately.

this is a risk with separate tickets that you could end up, as in your case, losing the ticket booked and having to buy a new one
Last time I did separate tickets I had the choice of a 3 or an 8 hour 'connection'. I took the 8 hour one. (on the day, the earlier flight would have been fine...hey ho!) Looks like you had a similar choice with your route so you gambled and lost.
I think Easyjet allow you to change on the day for an earlier flight so faced with this choice again it would be best to book the later flight but then try for the earlier one if you are on time.

Your travel insurance may cover you, depending on the level you took out.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

  • If you're booking separate tickets you need to allow enough time for delays. If a 2.5 delay was enough to cause you to miss a non connecting flight I doubt it would be coved by insurance.
