Compensation vs Travel Insurance

Hi, apologies if this is in the forum. I've looked and not seen any reference.

I experienced 27hr+ delay with Small Planet from Manchester to Crete last month. I intend to follow the guidelines here but when I contacted the travel company I booked with for further details, they informed me I cannot put a compensation claim in if I also claim under my travel insurance.

Does anyone know the truth to this? Aren't they independent? I've paid for insurance and the compensation is against the airline not the insurance company

Two separate issues = 2 claims = don't believe everything you are told.

your claim is not against the travel company you booked with, it is from the airline that delayed you
In addition some travel insurance may offer something like £20 for each 12 hour delay...fine to claim both

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I haven't seen anything else saying I can't claim twice. I'll give it a go and report back. With Small Planet it could take a while, if at all in any case.
