  • Well you have made a start by shopping at Asda,Morrisons also quite good and Iceland if theres one near.
Make a weekly or monthly menu and buy only what you need to make it work.Only buy BOGOF if you realy will use it.
Do you need that high brand shampoo or will a slightly cheaper one do?Please note I did not say econnomy thats better saved for washing up liquid and flour.
Making most of your meals from scratch makes it a lot cheaper we pay a lot for packageing, its also more eco freindly.Only cook what you can eat or if left over can you freez for another time? Dont make it and bin it.This was hard for me I have always over provided and ended up puting excess in bin:o
If poss make own lunches do not buy at work/out.Its ammazing but own lunch can be so much better for you as you controle fat, salt and calories.
This is only a quick guide I could bore you for hours and in detail:o
Hope it helps a bit .If you would like a long witter please pm me.

  • Stop going to the supermarket so often! As said before make your food plan, and stick to buying just that.

If you need bread/milk ete, either only take the money in cash that you will need or go to the nearest garage etc. milk may be more expensive, but how much more will you save rather than being tempted by goodies at the supermarket.

  • Hi thanks, I last did my shopping for a week last friday. I hardly use bread, just been eating things out of my freezer. Milk is the priority as I like my hot drinks, alcohol I hardly ever buy but got some bottles left over from my birthday in June. My friend has moved to newcastle so no friday nights out now until I next visit her. My boyfriend goes out friday, sat maybe out but never spend more than a tenner.
I am also a healthy eater pasta, and make my own chinese, never buy takeaways. Is online supermarket shopping better for saving money. My food bill per week is usually £30 but can get it lower. I find it difficult to find ideas for packed lunches. think its better I use wraps with fillings. Salad bags to expensive and half goes brown after a day or two.
I never had a credit card till two years ago, before that I was really good with money but everything has gone up and my wage only 2-3% each year.
So £17,000 does not go very far after normal bills and child maintenance left with about £300 to last month for food petrol to work and pleasure.

  • To stop me buying lots of stuff I dont need at the supermarket i take a hand basket. By the time I have put in 4 pints of milk, cheese, potatoes I can hardly carry it so dont bother getting much else but maybe a similar thing would work for you

You can grow your own salad leaves from seed and put them in a tray on your windowsill :) cheap too, the B&Q value lettuce seeds are only about 30p. If your house is warm you should be abel to grow them now i tihnk?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

  • Best advice I was given , many years ago. Never shop when your hungry, it really did stop me buying things on impulse.

I know it is know a well trotted out mantra, but as I say it really worked for me and still does!!

i do an online shop. well i am at the mo. not only cause i feel so sick all the time, food just turns my tummy. but i can go into 4 store 1 after the other and spend say £50 in each getting what i think are bargns then findning half goes out of date in couple days.

we often get leafets through door so if there are any amamzing deals i usally walk to get them as i can't then be bothered to carry to much. or as i know my mum goes to town on a friday i will give her the excat money and ask her tog et it. so i am then not tempted

If you can't grow your own salads, don't buy bags of it because they are poor value for money and the leaves wilt very quickly. Instead buy whole lettuces (like Little Gem). If you sliver something off the base and soak in cold water periodically before storing in the fridge salad try they will keep for ages. Also buy coleslaw cabbage or red cabbage which keeps for ages and stays crisp & crunchy.
