buy & fly cigs

with cigarettes as expensive as they are in england and flights as cheap as they are to europe has anyone tried an upgraded version of the booze cruise to france. with duty free as we knew it being removed although cigs are cheaper in france approx 2/3 of price here, in the likes of greece, spain etc a carton of 200 can be as little as £10. i bought about 800 i think on my return home from spain a couple of months ago and am now running out and the thought of going back to pay the hugely inflated prices here has me seriously considering giving up altogether (healtier option i know) but it just had me wondering if anyone has grabbed a cheap flight thown in lunch and filled their boots?? and if anyone has, whats your story?

A number of people have attempted trips to Poland to take advantage of the cheap tobacco there, but it gets confiscated when they come back to the UK, or they pay so much in duty that there is no point.

  • well have just paid £5.89 in iceland for a pack of menthol cigs (berkeley) not even one of the top brands so am now even more keen on finding out if this would be possible and cost effective. need some clarification on the amounts i am allowed to bring back too hubby and i always argue about whether its the 200 or 3200 both numbers have seen banded about and would be crucial point so as not to end up being stopped and paying duty. what i have done when not been sure in the past is take couple out of each pack as the ruling does seem to be personal consumption only and would hope that would be sufficient proof as selling them like that would not be possible, it would be somewhere like spain, greece, turkey etc what is the allowance? i know france is 3200 and america i was told is 200

Sounds very appealing but I know people who travel regular and they get me my tobacco. I've recently started buying herbal Hemp (don't confuse it with maijuana) and mix it with my tobacco to make it go a little bit further. I'm a healthier smoker now :D

I love it - the most Un-PC thread on MSE :D

Use a £10 short-haul fuel guzzling flights flight for a day trip to avoid paying tax to purchase nicotine sticks. Now if only you could fit in some fox hunting whilst you're there, and get it's pelt made into a coat by some child labourers (underpaid and on 16 hour days of course) I think you'd tick every box going!

P.S My tip is Luxembourg - accessed by Frankfurt Hahn. The cigs are more expensive than Poland (about £17 a carton), but make for an interesting day trip I reckon? Probably less likely to be pulled aside from a flight from Frankfurt as well.
