55" Tv !!! How big is the room it's going in ?
Even in a big house that's just to big, it takes over the whole room.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I have a Panasonic 3D smart TV and, after the initial excitement, I lost interest in all but the basics.
TBH, I'd say that a Now TV box (I bought mine for £14), without a subscription, is pretty much as useful.Moneyineptitude wrote: »While I agree all the SMART functions are replicated by cheap Blu-Ray players, games consoles and/or TV decoder boxes, it's also true that all the decent TVs available today are SMART by default.
So I can't see any way someone wanting a 55" screen would be able to avoid it being SMART.
The only app we use on the TV is Youtube in 4K and that takes a hammering. Oh, and voice search rocks!:D0 -

Your OP was very considered, and you obviously already knew the size of TV that would suit your room. Have a like.
What have you decided upon?0 -

For the record, the room is actually 7mtr-x-3.5mtr & having done a cardboard cutout of the TV, it fits quit nicely thanks
The past couple days or so i've been looking at the Panasonic DX700B & the 750B weighing up whether the 750 is worth it or to opt for the older cheaper model.
I know....they're not 55" :rotfl:0 -
We have had a 55" since 2012.
It in no way swamps the room and it's amazing how quickly one becomes accustomed to it's size. It's not like the CRT models of TV with huge backs...
I have to say standard definition broadcasts are not acceptable on a TV this size. I very rarely find myself watching anything not in HD.0 -

... In your opinion. There are viewing distance guides, which try to tell people how far they should be sitting from different sizes of TVs, so that they don't get sore necks, and can see the detail properly, but you can very easily judge it for yourself. My 'massive' 60in TV doesn't seem so massive any more. And yes, the TV is the focal point in my room, with the fireplace shoved into the corner!0 -
I have a smart TV - a few years old now, and whilst I have a blu ray player, PS4, and you view box with apps on, I still use some of the smart features on the TV. For example, the NOW tv player on youview only has the movies, so I have to watch it through the TV or playstation to get the entertainment programmes - easier to use the TV, and less leccy. Having said that, if you find a good quality TV in your price range that doesn't have all the apps you want, it's still worth considering given the large range of add ons to get round that.
Op, if you are any where near a Richer Sounds, it's a great idea to pop in and see them. They give great advice, and they tend to set their products up better in their shop. I'd also say go and look at Currys etc. anyway, see what TV you like, so you can then go online and order it elsewhere for less £. When I bought mine, I got it from a company called Hughes Direct and I saved about £100 compared to any shop, and their delivery and CS was great. Mind you, I wouldn't necessarily rule the likes of Currys out, as there are often cashback deals available. Despite their less than glowing reputation, I have bought products from Currys a few times, and mostly haven't had any issues.0 -
The price of the TV I'm looking at is identical in currys & John Lewis & I've read JL get good write ups on customer service & warranty so I'll probably be looking in currys & ordering from JL0

John Lewis is a generally better all round shopping experience than Curry's. You'll also find JL (and Richer Sounds) have free extended warranties on TV's which Curry's generally charge extra for.0
