Wasps nest found on property we're buying - is seller responsible for sorting?

As the title says!

We are in the process of purchasing a house (had offer accepted, survey planned for Wed), and we have just spotted an active wasps nest at the rear of the property.

I'm assuming the surveyor will pick up on this (we're having a full buildings survey) but I'm wondering whether this would be something the sellers should pay to get sorted before we exchange?

It will probably cost about £40 to £60 - so it's very trivial in the scheme of things.

You could ask the seller if you like, but if they refuse, I certainly wouldn't make an issue of it.

By the time you complete and move in it'll probably be finished with. I've read that they don't return to the same nest the following year.

Much as I hate wasps, they unfortunately have to live somewhere, so unless they are actually causing bother, there's no need to get rid of them.
  • They will all be dead/gone by November.

Of all the concerns raised by buyers on this forum, this is the bees knees!

If that's the extent of your concerns, you're good to go!

It's true .... they will be gone soon. And the nest itself (when empty) is something to behold, a paper sculpture. We had a big one in the garden, in a bush very close to the house but I didn't notice till they were nearly done. So it doesn't necessarily mean that the wasps would bother you even while nest is active.

What matters about a wasp nest is the flight path. There will be a well established route that they use and if it doesn't interfere with the routes humans use, they won't be any bother.

We get wasps nests in our loft. Not big ones mind, but they are there. Well they were, I just had to take them down and look at them once the wasps had gone of course.
    Amazing really.
But no issue whatsoever. If it's big and in the way just get a wasp person in, won't cost much. If that's all you have to worry about then sounds like you are on to a good property.
  • Just out of interest, where do they go when they vacate the nest?
