This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone.
Yet another murky day here. Yesterday was just awful all day. Driving rain non- stop. Despite that we all had a lovely time. My visitors thoroughly enjoyed their trip into the Hollow Mountain of Ben Cruachan and then their tour of Inverarary Castle.
Unfortunately they are leaving later this morning and life will return to normal. I have no plans for today except strip the guest bed and put on clean sheets. I won't be doing any washing yet until Monday when the rain is forecast to stop.
Lainey - hugs to you and your Mum.
Csarina - I hope you and your OH are given some proper help soon.
Make the most of Saturday, I may go back to bed when my guests leave as I've now had three very late nights!0 -
Morning folks and thanks for starting off GERS. After overnight rain it's brightening up here I think.
Just caught up on last night's news and so very sorry to read yours LAINEY. It's good that nature has a way of protecting us a little bit from bad news, I understand just what you mean and how you are feeling. Much love and thinking of you all.
I was relieved yesterday when I had a text from DD saying they had arrived safely in Southampton and had checked in the o/n hotel, complete with photos of the 3 DGDs trying out all the beds and the two youngest enjoying a bath! They are booked on the 8.00 a.m. ferry this morning so I hope they don't sleep in!
We are taking advantage of having no children to look after and going over to the caravan today for a rest! Just till Wednesday teatime then that leaves us two days to catch up on the washing and pack our cases for our own trip to the IOW next Saturday.
It's a race day at Ripon on Tuesday and Mr TA is hankering after us going. This might be the day when we go back to the caravan afterwards in pocket, instead of counting up our losses! (But somehow I don't think so!!)
Just a few clothes to pack and an assortment of foodstuffs for making quick and easy meals then we are setting off. It's a good forecast too which is a bonus.
Have a nice day if you can and thinking of LAINEY and CSARINA. (((HUGS))) to anyone else who needs one. No wifi at the van so lappy doesn't go with me but can catch up on your news on my phone. It's too fiddly to try and reply on it though! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's another grey start to the morning but I am sure it will brighten up in a bit. Hubby and the girls were up very late last night playing on the xbox and the computer so I am not expecting to see them anytime soon. Oh, spoke too soon, DD13 has just appeared looking for breakfast.
I have a nice quiet weekend to look forward to and hubby is much better so no more nursing required, thank goodness! Usual loads of washing to do and DD15 wants to learn to cook more meals so we shall be going through the cook books and planning what she can have a go at. I am so pleased as she has been very resistant to the idea of learning to cook. Her plan for the future was to marry a rich man so she could have a personal chef :rotfl::rotfl:.
Not sure what is for tea yet, will have a look in the freezer in a minute. Something with chicken I guess but I want to tidy up the inside freezer as we have a musclefood delivery coming next thursday and I need to make some room.
Sending hugs to you Lainey and your mum, you are in my thoughts x
I really hope you get the help you need csarina for your OH x
Gers, enjoy the rest of your peaceful weekend x
TravellingAbuela, have a lovely time in the caravan x
Hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you are doing, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Lainey - hugs to you and your family x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Everyone up here, DH and myself have already been out to take the big car to the garage for it's service and MOT - hoping it's not going to cost too much as service is a free one, so should just be paying for the MOT and any work, but there shouldn't really be any, it had a full service before we collected it and we've only done 6000 miles in it in a year, so hopeful it won't cost too much.
DS1 is going to the gym shortly, I'll be going out in a mo to visit the building society, car then needs collecting at 11.30am, I think we'll be chilling for the rest of the day.
Sun is shining on and off here, clouds keep getting in the way, it's already quite warm too. Washing on the line.
Dinner last night was chicken and rice for DS1, DS2 had pizza, and I had jacket potato and salad. DH decided on a burger. Tonight we'll be having a big salad, pork pie, hot quiche, carved gammon ham, turkey breast, hot new potatoes, pasta salad, HM coleslaw, thought it would make a nice change, don't know how it will go down, we'll see! Was reasonably productive yesterday, made dozen mince pies and dozen jam tarts - all of which are disappearing fast!
Have been loving watching the Olympics, good to see our Athletes hard work resulting in medals.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Gers X
Hugs to Lainey and csarina - thinking of you both xx
It's nice and sunny here. Ds1 is in the shower and I will be taking him to work at the cafe shortly. He has a trial at a hotel this evening (one hour gap in between jobs) so will be shattered tonight. He got paid for the labouring and had the biggest smile yesterday - thinking of those trainers he wants to buy no doubt. They want him back on Tuesday (Monday he is already committed to a shift at the cafe).
We were meant to be at my sisters today, but she has cancelled us, so I will be pottering in the front garden then popping to a member of the congregations house for a fundraiser. I have a meeting on Monday to discuss my working hours at the church - currently paid for 10 hours a week, but doing 12/13 on average. I'm taking on the lettings and invoicing from September so will ask for 20 hours and hopefully come away with 15 at the minimum. Here's hoping. Still no news on dh's interviews aaaargh.
Will put a wash on in a bit. Dinner is gammon steaks, oven chips, flat mushroom and peas. Also need to get a new baby girl card and wrapping paper as my cousin and her wife (yes they are gay) had their baby on Thursday. They have named her after my dearly missed Nan which is so sweet.
Hope you all have a great day

I just saw your news and I am so sorry.

I am puzzled by the advice re carpets as an elderly relative had a stroke and had a walker when she got back home and she had carpets all over except the kitchen.
Can't wait to show the family the work done in the past week, velux blinds upstairs, garden trellis painted, new spotlights in hall, carpet rods in thresholds, new bath panels so their cat can't hide in there and cause panic etc.
Family are due around eleven so I want to do a quick tidy up, have shower and shampoo and look out an outfit. As I have no idea what they have planned for my birthday i don't know whether to be in jeans and trainers for a long walk and a picnic or a nice dress.
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"

Both my in-laws had walkers and their house was all carpet except kitchen & bathroom - one had the traditional zimmer type, the other was a wheelie one. Hope that you both have a better day.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Morning all,
:bdaycake:
Happy Birthday to Elona hope you have a great day.
Sun is shining here and wm is on doing its thing, dd is in the shower and is going off for the weekend to meet her young man, they live so far apart that they meet one month or so in London and have a weekend away, they have booked a nice restaurant in Covent Garden for dinner tonight.
I need to take my car in this morning for its exhaust its under guarantee so wont cost me anything, I also need to get a loaf and tea bags forgot both of these with my shopping this week.
Little Evie has bitten through her lead, she gets so excited when you take her out that she jumps up and bites at the lead and plays tug of war with you till you get her in the fields and let her off ! so I have ordered her another one !
Dinner tonight will be some kind of chicken chirizio bake with olives and crusty bread, nice and easy just shove in the oven.
Lainey I was so sorry to hear the news re your dear mum, it must have been such a shock for both of you, is she with you at the moment ? big hugs to both of you xxxx
Have good days all xx0 -
Hello everyone,
Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts for me & darling Mum, it helps to know you are all thinking of us xx
Didn't sleep much last night but was up early and about, so we went into Cambridge to do a few errands and now back home for a while before going over to see my DSIL. Had a chat with her this morning and decided not to tell her two girls until after all of next week's celebrations and certainly not until my eldest niece and new husband are back form their honeymoon.
Mum is with my DB and his family at the moment, they go on holiday next Thursday and my brother especially wanted to spend some time with Mum, also helps with two teenagers in the house that life maintains a certain level of normality which is much needed at the moment.
Mum especially expressed her wish to have it that way for as long as possible so what the lady wants the lady gets.
Once again thank you x
Very many happy returns to Elona, hope your enjoy your day x0
