Finlux Tv won't switch on from standby - only 1 month old!

I bought this tv from amazon and have had it a month. Was really happy with it so threw away the packaging but now it won't turn on using the remote so it needs to be switched off and on at the plug. We've checked the batteries in the remote and they're fine.
Amazon want me to package it up and pay to send it back, is this right when the item isn't fit from purpose? I don't want to end up being out of pocket with no TV. What should I do?

Did you buy directly from Amazon or just through Amazon ?

When I've had problems with items bought direct, Amazon have collected free of charge, but the items had to be packaged, as Amazon use couriers.

Do you have a warranty document, giving details ?

I bought it through amazon and it says they fulfilled it - does this mean I bought it direct?

Does every other remote function work?.

Try checking the firmware. It may have updated itself.

It's under warranty. Go back to Amazon website, look at "Orders" -> More Order Actions -> Return or Replace Items.
I think this job really needs

Are you sure the remote is sending infrared signals? To check, watch the front of it through a digital camera - you'll be able to see the flashes if it is.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

OP reported Amazon collecting the TV five days ago.
