I was lucky to have her as my mum for 48 years. And now it's my turn to return the love. Emotions are where she can still make connections with new people, which I find almost overwhelming. After all, all you hear about dementia/ alzheimers (and she has both) is about the forgetting and losing of memories. Yet we have found, using the awesome agency Home instead (shameless plug here, sorry) that mum can make new connections. She doesn't remember S's name (though she remembers her dog!) But her face totally lights up when she sees her.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!1 -
Well I am back from town with DS1 and DS4. DS1 bought a few gifts, and we Scooby Doo'd (let's split up!!) and met back at their favourite doughnut shop. I stayed with DS4 obviously, lets face it, I am the driver!, soon I will be able to take them to town, and go sit in a coffee shop with a book, and then they can come to me like homing pigeons, but I suppose a week away from being 10 is a little young to release him into the wilds of Leicester city centre (not that it would bother him in the slightest - dangerously confident child that he is).
So, after the football this afternoon, I am opening my bottle of Ameretto, spiking my sweet mincemeat and making pies and getting my dried fruit sozzled to make a cake. I might add some to soya cream to make a vegan ameretto cream drink. DH has discovered vegan baileys. The lady on the local homeless charity converted milkfloat coffee stand made him a ''cheeky hot chocolate'' with a shot of it in it. He was trollied. Now I fancy an ameretto one. See, the power of suggestion!
Tonight is the Sunday before the last week of school. Well that has come around quickly.
DH found another slate in the back yard. We don't know if it came off our roof or the one next door. Will stick my head out of the skylight later on (not too much later or it will be dark!) and definitely before I go anywhere near a spirit. Safety first.
DS3 has complained his radiator is not working, so will have to go playing with the valves and bleeding them again.
The car goes to the garage tomorrow morning. I am dreading it, but I have managed to sideline £500 into another account to pay for it. I do not think it will be much more than that. My savings still are increasing, which is nice. I cannot remember another December where I have been in such a good position with all pots of money topped up to pay off various December bits.
What is worrying though, is the Tory threats to remove the public license from the BBC as feel they have not been impartial over the elections or brexit. The senior conservative ministers are rumoured to be boycotting BBC political programmes, which seemed to be true this morning, when Gove was all over Sk7 but they only sent Rishi, the chief secretary to the Treasury on to Marr, who said they were looking into de-criminalising not having a tv license. They are going to kill the BBC for not turning into the mouthpiece for the party machine. They can't do anything about the agreed funding until 2017, but they can make paying the license fee optional.
They have enough MPs to redraw the electoral boundaries without any effective opposition as well.
They have already threatened the high court for their decision that progueing parliament was unlawful. So, now we just wait and see what they come out with next week. Who is next in the Tory's little black book of insults and imagined sleights.
Interesting times eh?4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I suspect we live in interesting (but not very nice) times. I have to wonder what people were thinking or even if they were thinking at all. Thankfully whilst I have never earned a lot (less than average wage pretty much all my life) I have the funds to deal with anything to do with me & mine. I still give to childline but I am afraid that whilst feeling very guilty everyone else is on their own. I'm hoping that the Brexit thing doesn't land up with so much inflation that my pension is a year behind on that I don't have to stop that. Not holding my breath.
Has anyone in the UK actually realised that if their milk comes from NI they are going to have two lots of 36% tariffs. One to send it to southern Ireland for treatment & one to send it back. So what we are paying £1 for now is going to cost almost £2.
For the last few years this country has been like turkeys voting for Christmas. What went wrong, what rubbish are they reading & believing. If they live in the northern part of the UK have they not seen all the things that say funded by the EU? Have they not noticed that simple things like a blood test result under this lot is no longer a next day thing but (if you are lucky) a 3 to 4 day thing.
Sorry for the hijack, can you tell I feel strongly about this? I should change my username to Worried sick.1 -
Blimey, I've never known blood results to be next day (granted I haven't had a test for a very long time...actually last time I did T BLiar was in power I think...didn't that go well too... they're all as bad as each other. All I can say is thank goodness from Trump taking some of the world focus off the UK :eek:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
