Wilko overcharging for same item 6 weeks in a row

Beware items purchased at Wilko.

For the last 6 weeks+ I have been purchasing the TV Times magazine which is clearly marked as £ 1.60. When I come to the till Wilko charge £ 1.99 for the magazine. When I point out the price is incorrect they apologise and amend my transaction but don't bother to flag the discrepancy.

Today I spoke to the acting line manager about it and she blamed head office, which is probably true but also suggests this could be company wide rather than one specific shop.

As the price is barcoded, Wilko must have programmed the tills to add 39p to the price.

The vast majority of people. Do you think that's not the case?

Rubbish. They would have never deliberately added to the price to overcharge for the sake of it.

    It was obviously a mistake!!!

I would not bother with the local branch managers.

They either just shrug their shoulders or blame head office.

Personally I would drop them a line via their website as it would need the I.T. department who runs all the stores databases to change the pricing barcode.

Prices are not just priced into the tills. There is a main local server in the shop which links to the tills with all the prices. This local server is updated regularly by head office' s main server,. so the problem of price being wrong is on the head offices main server.

This why then wrong price is cascaded downwards to shop level.

But after 6 weeks it should have been rectified by now.

That's assuming only the price of 1 item is wrong so it's a simple process to notice and get it rectified. What if you work for a company like I do where 4000/5000 items change price every week depending on competition? Then these things become like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Ok you can say then they should have a system to be able to cope. They would, providing you're all prepared to pay Harrods prices for your basic shopping!

Wilko isn't Harrods. Wilko is cheap. If you want it to stay cheap you need to bare in mind that things go wrong to keep the prices down!
