Feedback left for a seller - removed by ebay agent?

Hi
Just wanted some advice.

3 weeks ago i purchased an item on ebay. i was aware of the slower postage and dispatch time offered by my seller prior to bidding, however was happy to continue as the item wasn't needed for a specific event.

Anyhow many events happened in the two weeks until i finally received the item - among those was 26 messages whereby the seller called me all manor of names, it was one of those scenarios where my 1 message to them was received with 6 back from them.

Anyhow the item itself arrived and was as described - however the level of abuse and harassment i received contained within her messages left me not having a peasant experience. My initial thought was to leave a neutral feedback rating/comment - however as i was still receiving messages 2 days after id received m item (and the seller was aware id got the item and was happy with it) i decided to leave a negative feedback rating/comment.

I left it factual that the seller was rude and bombarded me with messages after i queried delivery.

3 days later and the seller was still proceeding to message me with abusive messages - calling me a muppet, dull, troll, got no life etc.. etc... I decided to call ebay and make them aware of the seller's harassment and left it at that.

I checked my ebay today to find i'd been left with a negative comment by the seller - so i call ebay to get the comment removed.

I was told the seller had received their generic email regarding the sending of messages to buyers and that her harassment had been noted - i was then told 'no problem we will remove the negative comment on your account and will send the seller a policy warning'

So i get off the phone thinking i can now put this mess behind me. After 20mins of refreshing it seems the feedback was still present on my account and i get an email from ebay:
After reviewing your eBay account, it appears you left Feedback that isn't allowed under eBay's Negative Comment left for a buyer policy.
-The following Feedback comment you left has been removed:
Extremely Rude Seller - Queried parcel delivery, Bombarded with Abuse **AVOID**

The Feedback rating and Detailed Seller ratings are still active.

Because sellers aren't able to leave negative Feedback for buyers, leaving a negative comment or follow-up comment with a positive Feedback rating isn't allowed.

The comment on my account was still active - but would appear what the ebay adviser did was remove my comment left for the seller and issue me with a policy warning for the pleasure?

I have called ebay about this and they have now removed the comment the seller left for me - but my comment left for the seller still remains as 'removed by ebay'.

When questioned and made ebay aware of their obvious mistake - how likely is it that my comment left for the seller will be re-instated?

I feel it's unfair that an agent error has resulted in the seller getting away with being abusive/ harassing and damn right nasty.

Is there anything i can do to ensure ebay re-instate my comment left for the seller?

Without going into the ins and outs of what's gone on. If you feel feedback has been removed in error, your best bet may be Facebook. I know of 2 people who have had removed feedback reinstated.

Perhaps you may want to slim down the story to the facts in chronological order.

    Thanks for the reply

So your saying potentially ebay have removed the feedback i left for the seller correctly and rightfully so?

I called ebay asking them to remove the negative feedback i'd received from my seller - this in turn removed the feedback i left for the seller and left my negative comment i received from the seller in tact?

    What's happened there?

Its clear the ebay operative i spoke to accidentally removed the comment from the seller's account instead of mine - so on that basis shouldn't ebay re-instate????

How did you deduce that? No, I said, if you feel feedback has been removed in error.....

What happened there is you (the buyer) cannot be left negative feedback. I expect, when you called, as you were referring to it as 'negative' the CS agent got confused and removed the negative feedback, which is what you had asked. The fact you were referring to the positive feedback that had been left for you would be too much for a CS rep in Manila to comprehend.

When called i actually asked the agent to remove the false positive that had been left on my account. I specifically said a number of times that the seller left me a negative comment under a positive rating - but understand what you are saying about ebay agents - it takes very little effort for them to get confused.

The fact that ebay sent me a policy warning aimed at a seller leaving false positive feedback for a buyer - would 100% certify to the fact they messed up and accidentally removed the wrong feedback comment.

My question is - has anyone had this happen to them and did they get their feedback reinstated?

    Thanks for the replies :)

had this happen to my mum recently, very similar experience after flea bombs that didnt work and an extremely abusive seller. She lost her money, left similar feedback, also used the word avoid (like you her feedback wasn't abusive)

ebay removed it as it said that the word "avoid" was on their banned list from ebay's negative/nuteral list o.O and they refused to reinstate it. good luck getting this sorted ! :)

Ebay have removed the feedback i left for the seller by mistake - instead of removing the false positive the seller left for me - the agent accidentally removed the feedback id left.

The email i received from ebay clearly stated that i cannot leave buyers a false positive feedback - now since im the buyer this is a clear error on their part.

This isn't a case of me using words that are banned or against ebays policies - it's about the numpty ebay agent removing the wrong feedback comment. The comment they should have removed was the one on my account left by the seller.

It's certainly interesting that you said the word 'avoid' is banned or forbidden from being placed in feedback comments. I, as a buyer have only had to leave 4 negative comments in my lifetime of buying on ebay (7yrs) - looking back, ALL of those feedback comments are still present and all have the word AVOID in them?
  • You have the item and it's ok. What's the problem again?

The problem is the transaction as a whole was awful - probably about the worst ive ever had in my 7yrs on ebay, and ebay have 'accidentally' removed my right to warn other buyers of this seller!! A seller that not only thinks it's acceptable to post an item whenever they get round to it (the listing stated the seller dispatches within 2 working days - it was actually 6 working days before they did so - no matter i gave them the benefit of the doubt and actually waited 7 working days before i sent my first email to them regarding the tracking error) then thinks they are well within their rights to send their buyer over 35 messages in 4 days calling them all manor of names - and is shocked (because they have a terminally ill father) when i try to explain how their email replies are coming across. Funnily enough their terminally ill father didn't keep them away from their computer - as they had time to send a total of 6 messages in 10mins on a number of occasions

It is my right to leave a factual response to the transaction as a whole - it was not a positive one (due to the seller's persistent and abusive messages to me) - therefore i have a right to leave the appropriate feedback comment - ebay 'accidentally removed this entitlement..which i UNFAIR considering the circumstances and reasons they removed it....

Ebay messed up - this wasn't a case of 'seller reported their negative feedback and ebay agreed thus removing it' - i asked ebay to remove a false positive on my account - the adviser messed up and accidentally removed the wrong feedback comment - surely you can see this is more than a 'you got your item, it's ok, what's the problem again?' moment?

Your theory of 'as long as an item is ok - there's no harm done' is flawed on so many levels, leaving the door wide open for sellers to treat buyers any way they see fit - but as long as the item is ok, the buyer should just put up and shut up?

I appreciate you reading and and taking the time out to reply to my post question - but your comment offered very little in the way of help, if you couldn't deduce the problem from my first, second, or third replies, then rather than leave a non-helpful comment it may have been more productive to hit the back button....

And that's the reason why eBay is in the state it is.....
