Through a broker. I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world waiting ages for approval.

6 weeks is an unusually long time to be waiting. Does the broker have an explanation for you as to why the process is taking so long?

6 weeks is too long, simple as that really. You should have been chasing it 4 weeks ago to be honest!

I'm chasing every day, keep getting told it's with the underwriters.

Says it's normal now for lenders. I don't think waiting weeks is normal. It's been the most stressful time of my life!

Last time I moved I had an instant decision, but that was 2005

    Are you with Nationwide?
    They quoted us 6 weeks.
However we were lucky enough to have savings to pay off our mortgage and move mortgage free. We decided it was much less hassle and didn't want the uncertainty for 6 weeks.

    Your buyers sound charming! :(

That sounds like a bit of an excuse to me. I would have expected a mortgage offer to have been issued by now.

Not got any experience with Platform Mortgages, maybe Kingstreet will be along and can offer better advice.

So anyway today, I've been forced to agree to exchange tomorrow with completion on 2nd September. Their words were "we don't care if she's homeless". The only reason I'm not telling them to f*** off is because the house I live in now is jointly owned with my ex and we just want to get things sorted financially, as we've both moved on and re-married.

They knew when they offered on the house that I was buying somewhere else, so they should've realised it wasn't going to be a quick sale.

I'm so annoyed with them, I'm potentially going to be homeless between sale and purchase :(

Stop mowing your lawn, take out light bulbs, remove fuses from plugs, only provide them one key, set heating to come on full blast at 2am etc etc.

... is the state a lot of people in your position would leave the house in now..

Mortgages don't take that long. I wouldn't exchange until you've got clarification on that, it sounds like there won't be an offer forthcoming to me.
