Buying cigarettes on a plane

Or, for some reason, in the bar of a cross-channel ferry
Only one packet at a time (presumably for use on the ferry) but plenty of people do the rounds of all the bars and cafes to get as many as they can.
Because of an EU exemption, it is still legal for both tobacco and alcohol to be sold duty and tax free to passengers on both ships and aircraft on EU to EU journeys providing that the items sold are for immediate use.0 -
Does anyone have any idea how much it costs for 200 Lambert and Butler if buying them on a plane coming back form Majorca?
I want to buy 200 for someone who has been doing ome work for us and my sister is going away this week and will bring them back but Ive no idea how much to give her and want to be sure to give her enough to get them.
Cigarettes bought abroad are supposed to be for personal use or a gift, so if your sister is stopped and says "they are for someone who has done some work for you" it would be considered as a payment and she could lose the cigs, likewise if she says you gave her the money to buy them.
Unlikely to get stopped and/or hassled over 200 cigs but always best to have an answer that is acceptable to HM customs.0
