Daughter going to Sydney for a Year what clothing does she need

Our daughter is off to Sydney for a year on 18th August 2016. She only has 23 :)kg baggage allowance plus 7 kg hand luggage.

As she is away for a year what would you recommend she takes clothing/footwear wise to cover her over the 12 months period as she doesn't want to buy clothes and shoes over there as I had previously asked and found out things are very expensive over there.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, when she arrives it will be winter in Sydney, in fact I think i went out the very same time of year when I went over!

We had rain non stop for 2 weeks, and it was quite cool when I got there. So a couple of hoodies/fleece/warm jacket is very useful, the heaviest of which could be worn on the journey. Jeans/leggins and things you could layer if it's cooler. Thin knitted jumpers, could have a summer vest underneath. Trainers etc.

Then it starts to get warm, so lots of vests and shorts would be light and easy to pack, and of course swim wear. I didn't find it too expensive to buy clothes I needed, but I was happy to stick to places like Target and Kmart. You can get quite a lot of summer clothes into a 23kg limit!

By December it will be very hot!

Hope she has a great time

Yes it is and as you can see have already had an excellent reply. Living in Scotland, UK winters and summers extremely different to Australia so please excuse me if this question doesn't seem serious, it most certainly is. If you have anything useful to add to what she should take please feel free to reply.

Has she got any plans to travel to cooler places in Winter such as Blue Mountains, Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne, New Zealand, if so she'll need bulky clothing for that.

BTW if she'll be earning AUS$ she'll be able to afford some cheaper clothing items at H&M, Zara etc.

I can only imagine the reaction from my daughter if my wife tried to advise her what clothes to take away with her, I think I'd hide in the shed for a week until it calmed down :)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Lol I'm not telling her you need to wear this or that, I am looking for advice for her so she knows what she needs to pack. She is 20 and unless you but a rocket under her bum nothing gets done. I can see it on Wednesday night - mum why didn't you tell me I needed that!

She's planning in staying in Sydney, it's been mentioned the idea of traveling but she says she really wants to stay in Sydney (Bondi Rescue and all that!!).

Does she know winter and spring can be chilly in Sydney, or is she expecting wall to wall summer?

She should arrange a flight with a stop-over somewhere in the Far East and buy lots of clothes there...
