Hiya
A good place to start will be our MEGA Index, the Cooking section for the rice, and the Cleaning section for the pan...
You can find this via my signature any time you see it or...
..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Start Here Bar at the top ofthe main listing page which looks something like this:-Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. sounds as though you had the heat to high......so the water evaporated as well..
how i cook rice.. is first of all i put water on to boil.... to be honest i allways put more water than what they say on the packet....
while that is getting to boiling i get a sieve.... and pour some rice into it and then rinse the rise under the tap.... this get rid of any dust or reidue etc....
once the water is boiling i put the rice in.. to cook..
keeping an eye so it doesnt boil dry.... if i feel its not quite cooked and the water is low i add more water form a kettle.....and i stir the rice now and again...
i fill the kettle with water and boil...
then i empty the rice into a culinder to drain..... then i pour the boiling water from the kettle over the rice.... just to clear any starch away.. so its not sticky etc...... and fluff it up with a folk..
i allways get good cooked rice this way.....
as for you burned saucepan...... i would leave it soak.... and see waht happens....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Do you watch How clean is your home??
The tip they ised for cleaning burnt pans really works - i used it many times when i first got married and seemed to burn EVERYTHING .
What you need to do is buy a cheap bottle of cola, pour some in the pan, enough to fill the pan to a couple of cm high and heat on full then let it simmer for a few mins - i usually get a wooden spoon in there stirring and rubbing the bottom of the pan at the same time. empty and give a wash, should be good as new but if its still a bit dirty just repeat the boiling cola thing.
Hope that helps

I have stainless steel pans. When I burn these I put some soda crystals in the bottom and bring to the boil. Everything just seems to lift off. Not sure if this can be used on other sorts of pans.
Take care

Warm water and some washing powder always works fine for me (leave it overnight). I use it to clean tea residues off the strainers too which are normally hard to shift. hth cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

Rice
1 cup of rice
2 cups of water
Boil, when water is bubbling put lid on pan and turn down heat to low untill all water has gone.
Just keep your eye on it that's all you need to do.0 -
Depends on the rice as well - some brands of rice take more water than others. The basic rule of thumb is as krispyg76 said - 1:2 rice to water and keep the heat as low as possible once boiling.
Try to stick to the same brand of rice if you can, that way you get to know the timings and water requirements.
Actually, depending on what I'm doing with the rice I cook it in two diffent ways:-
Plain boiled rice I tend to use loads of boiling water, cook the rice and then strain through a colander.
Seasoned rice ( Pilau, etc ), I fry onions and garlic in Ghee ( or butter ) until tender then add any spices and the rice and make sure it is all coated. Then I add the correct amount of boiling water and keep it covered untill cooked ( This is where the knowledge of the rice comes in ). I usually find that the butter has helped in keeping the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan but it does make a slighly crispy base to it ( ok if stirred in ).
I also count any cloves and cardomon pods into the pot and out again at the end ( nothing worse than chewing on one )

I always used boil in the bag until I tried this:
Put your rice in the pan and pour over boiling water until it is covered by nearly an inch.
Put onto a medium high heat without a pan lid until the water has nearly gone (about 10 mins)
Remove from heat, put on the lid, and leave for about 10 minutes.
This steams the rice, and has given me perfect fluffy rice every time :jHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
