Glossing

Options
Not very Diy minded, I decided to gloss the skirting today.
I haven't finished and started in the afternoon. Dam it's a long and tedious and laborious task.
The doors aren't Matt, I guess they are between gloss and semi gloss.
Don't have an electric sander and it would have taken me weeks with a sheet of sandpaper, so skipped this set.
The woodwork is in good condition.
Quick clean with sugar soap and began the task with dulux gloss and a good Harris brush.

So I stopped as my small gloss tin is nearly empty.

Checking it all now, skirting looks fine. Door in parts (it's a patterned/grooved type door), looks slightly patchy in place. I have only applied one coat so far, so wondered if this was normal?

One small tin has let me do bedroom + kitchen skirting, both sides of 3 doors and 1 side of another door plus a couple frames.

I prefer to use eggshell to gloss for woodwork. Easier to apply, quicker to dry and brushes clean in water.
It is a mistake to skimp on preparation.
Buying two small cans is more expensive than buying large can.
Achieving a professional finish is not easy and you will improve with practise.

    I know:(

I saw the eggshell, no idea why I didn't buy it. Assumed it was just a colour.

Anyway, live and learn I guess.

It'd a painful process this glossing.

Only if you buy water based, so same can be said for gloss.

For your info: The Op said Dulux gloss which is solvent based. Dulux eggshell is water based.

There are pros and cons. Some would argue that solvent based gives a more durable, shinny finish. I prefer matt.

Good for you giving it a go. I am feel sure you will gain confidence as you gain experience with DIY

Which includes water based gloss, making this post incorrect.
