Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I think it's stuck again - it's gone up fom 58 mins to 1 hour 45 mins, so switching off and on again might not have solved the problem.
Bedsit Bob, can you tell me how to add Garmin Express to acceptable sites? I'm using Win 7. Words of one syllable would be good please. I have Googled for the instructions but .......

I'm afraid I can't help you with specifics LadyDee, as I'm on Windows 10, and have never had Windows 7.
However, generally, you would open the firewall, and add the address of the site.
Maybe someone with Windows 7 can give you more precise guidance.0 -

I did eventually manage to complete the update by just leaving it overnight - not too sure how long it eventually took as my laptop switched itself off.
Download is now 18.9 and seems to be running much quicker today.
Many thanks.0 -
Open Control panel and select Windows Firewall, Advanced settings, inbound rules, New rule. Add (Garmin's URL and save.
For other AV protection open the control panel for your actual AV (unless you are using Windows Defender) and you will see a similar system to Firewall, for my AV it is Configure security settings, exception lists.0 -

In preparation for hols this reminded me to update my Garmin.
A Garmin express update was required first which took about 10 minutes. Map updates took about 1hr 45 min.
Not being able to select the areas you want to download makes for a long process.0 -

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes the next time I do an update:)0 -
I'm trying to update the Garmin satnav installed in my Suzuki S-cross. My browser (Firefox) wouldn't let me download the Garmin plug-in. I tried switching to Internet Explorer but ended up going round in circles being redirected back to where I started. Can anyone offer advice?0

I just use GarminMapUpdater.exe, for the UK and Ireland maps.
(That was intended for the OP, not Rodney2404...!)0
