Windows 7 on a PC running VMware, with CentOS 5, 6, 7, Ubuntu 14, 16 and Windows 10 virtual machines. And a macbook pro running El Capitan. Well you did ask :rotfl:

Trying out these various Chromebook style OS'es and they're quite tidy!

Better than running Android on an x86 I find.

Having tried a few versions of Linux, though I actually really like some of them in reality for my usage there is too much which is if not problematic, certainly inconvenient..

Having used Unix in the old days, I loved the idea of GNU/Linux. But I had to try at least half-a-dozen distributions and get my head round how they worked before I found one that works as I think it should. I broke all the others within a week or two. :p

With the endless Windows Update problems, it's great to be able to update the OS and every installed program with a single command. And it's great for control-freaks like me! I find that a "good" Linux installation behaves much more reliably and predictably than Windows.

    What no Windows 8.x? :p

Actually although the user interface was rightly criticised, I found Windows 8 and 8.1 were always pretty solid and stable underneath.

I think Windows 10 is OK, but definitely a step back in terms of stability - for instance the Edge browser just goes off in a huff and closes itself for no apparent reason from time to time. No error message, no nothing. Admittedly I've not really used the new update yet so perhaps that's better.

I'm not sure what i've got.
I had Vista but my computer broke and the guy i got in to fix it, sold me a re-con one. I think it might be something older than Vista.

    ^ Maybe Windows XP, SailorSam?

I've stayed with the Win 7 that the laptop came with. Judging by the issues people continue to have with Win 10, it's the best for me. That said it does slow a little with each update, as have previous PCs. Would it be cynical to think this is no accident and that Microsoft deliberately slow older versions of Windows to hasten your transition to new hardware and software?

    What issues are those?
People generally only post if they have issues, giving a skewed view of things.
I've upgraded 4 machines, including a 2006 Dell laptop without a single problem, one of those 4 has now updated to the Anniversary Edition.
Win 10 has found drivers for a Canon i560, HP Laserjet 1320 and HP Laserjet 1505 printers, and installed an Epson 2480 scanner.
No other Windows OS I've used has done all that. :)
    Move along, nothing to see.
