Help ! my parents are doing my head in !
Dad has a BT vision box with Fibre BB, any time talk and a BT line.
He is adamant that he could get it cheaper if he left BT. He pays £63.37pcm all in at the mo to include caller ID and the Sports package (which is free...and he doesnt watch).
Ive been all over the t'internet trawling for a better deal and cant find one. Am I missing something because he swears blind hes being robbed (hes 71 and has a chip on his shoulder big enough to take down the Titanic).
He wants ;
anytime calls with caller ID
unlimited fibre BB
a TV box that lets him record series upon series of Freeview crappola.
access to on demand services
(and possibly a clip around his hairy ear)

I suspect the reason you weren't able to find anything is because only BT & Talktalk supply Freeview (Youview) boxes on their TV contracts.
So...
Talktalk Plus TV with Fibre?
£37.70pm for 18 months, then £47.70. (But you should be able to cancel the TV element after 18 months and keep the Youview box bringing it down to c. £27.70).
Includes a small group of Sky channels whilst you subscribe, as well.

There's also Now TV bundled with BB, if you are in their service area. Their fibre has a £50 setup fee, though. Their box isn't a recording box, either.
Or just look at plain BB from, say, Plusnet and buy a Freeview Recorder or Youview Box.
It depends on exactly which channels and on-demand players he wants, and whether there are any issues in providing services to his address. Fibre isn't necessary for one person just using video streaming who already has, say, 10Mbps+ on ADSL.0 -
thanks Cornucopia... are Talk talk as bad as everyone says they are ? Dont want dad filling my ear because he cant get through to complain about x,y and z....0

I've found them to be okay. Though I know what I want, know what's possible and will haggle hard.
It's not getting through that's the problem, but "getting through" to the call centre ops. If you can get transferred to the UK-based loyalty team, that's the best way to get things resolved.
I've not had any technical issues with them, so can't really comment on their tech support.0 -

You can add Plusnet and EE to that list.
No experience of EE BB so can't comment, been there got the tee shirt with TT, just avoid. Have BT at work which is OK. Had issue switching from TT to Plusnet no service for week due to a faulty Plusnet unit at the exchange but now OK.0 -
Oh yes, and a better selection of Pay channels than TT, too.

I just (re)-signed up to 18 months with PlusNet - get unlimited Fibre, plus anytime calls, plus Youview+ box (the '+' is that it works as a recorder and can record upto 500gb), plus free entertainment package for 18 months, and a discount of £3 a month for first 6 months - pay £35 (plus non-inclusive calls) for first 6 months, then £38 for 12 months, then £43 when the 18 months finishes. I've been with plusnet a few years and can't fault them. Their website is helpful, the members section has all the info you need, and their online chat people are usually really good.
The you view box also has the usual apps available - BBC, ITV, C4, Now TV, Netflix etc. plus the 7 day channel guide either way makes recording easy, and it links to the players if you want to watch something from yesterday that is available. The entertainment package has a few decent channels plus BT sport 1 and Eurosport. I'm find it pretty awesome. You can also pay extra, for extra BT sports channels, and HD upgrade for the extra channels, but not bothered yet.
I don't think it's massively different to Talk Talk or BT offerings, but PlusNet usually good CS, plus cheaper for me than BT. The only person I know who has had TT, advised me to avoid like the plague.0
