Parachute jump insurance

Hi guys, I've done a quick search on here about this but nothing came up.

I have a sponsored parachute jump this Sunday. As I have two young boys, I'm a tad worried that something will happen, so I'd like to organise some insurance. I already have life insurance, but don't know if it covers 'extreme sports' etc, does anyone out there know of any decent/recommended parachute jump insurance 'included' policies please?

Thanks
Sharry

Most life assurance policies will cover you for one-off extreme sports.

It would be worth calling them to confirm that you would still be covered before spending on extra insurance.

There is a specialist activity brokers Harrison Beaumont, who have been around for a very long time. Many other brokers refer clients to them, as they can often arrange cover not available elsewhere.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

If this is organised through a charity, aren't they getting a group insurance for the event?

If you are worried something might happen then don't do it; simple.

There are plenty of 'safe' ways to raise money for a charity.

I went gliding once and had to sign a disclaimer that basically if anything happened I was on my own; no comeback on the gliding company. I expect the same is true of parachute jumping but perhaps someone who has done one can say?

When I did a charity jump a few years back either the charity or the jump school offered a one off life policy to cover me - about £10 for £100k from memory.
It would be worth you contacting whoever is organising the jump

Life policy only covers you if you are killed; wouldn't be any cover if you are left paralysed and unable to look after your children.

There were other options available - I just wanted to make sure there would be a good party if anything went wrong :-)
  • Whats the chances of a catastrophic parachute failure out of interest ?
If its less than being struck by lightning etc you know its a waste of money.

It doesn't have to be a parachute failure. When I did a sponsored jump, one of the jumpers broke his collar bone. If you are self employed, you would need insurance to cover loss of earnings.
