I was wondering whether BG would allow me to charge for free, on Saturdays, a massive bank of batteries to power my house for the rest of the week ?

How many kWh do you use per week?

How many batteries would you need to store this amount of energy?

How much space would this hypothetical bank of batteries require?

How much would it cost to implement this?

How much charge could you put into the battery bank in eight hours?

The BG free weekend power tariff is expensive for the other 160 hours each week

Forget it, this is simply a pathetic attempt to get the gullible to take smart meters!

Also, consider the effort needed to move very heavy batteries about.

    Reasonable usage

We may contact you if we think you’re using an unreasonably large amount of electricity on your free day, for example, if you start doing washing for the whole street, or set up a restaurant in your living room. If we think you are using an excessive amount, we may take you off the tariff and move you to our cheapest variable price tariff.

Of course they're not going to make a loss - they're a business first and foremost.

I think I read that it cannot exceed 11% of your metered weekly usage....So that's a no.

So, virtually a standard days allowance ?
hardly worth the paper it's written on ?

They aren't going to give a discrete amount, (eg 500 KWh) for obvious reasons. They will determine on the evidence before them what is unreasonable.
