Leisure Guard car hire excess insurance

A word of warning about the above company. Taking the advice of recommended companies on MSE I insured with the above company. I booked with Gold Car at Faro Airport (don't go near them - see separate thread) and unfortunately someone drove into the back of my rental car. Gold Car charged me €500 excess on return. On my return home I made my claim through Leisure Guard's claims handler Orchard Administration. Despite providing them with lots of documentation regarding the accident they now say I have to wait until Gold Car settle their claim against the third party who drove into me. I don't understand what this has to do with what I insured for. I was charged an excess, I have provided proof of what was charged to my credit card by Gold Car therefore they should reimburse me my loss.
Anyone else had an experience of this kind?

Sounds like they want to know all the costs before they decide to pay out.
If the final number is less than €500, it's understandable that they don't want others to make a profit.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

I guess that they imagine that GoldCar would refund anything remaining from than 500€ to the OP. :rotfl: Ridiculous!0 -
No they just want to pay out as little as possible, 'tis how insurance companies make more money.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

OP would have been better off stating that they reversed into something...0

This is Orchard's response to my question of what is delaying the settlement of my claim.
'Please be advised that you are covered for any physical loss or damage to your hire vehicle.
However, if a third party is held liable for the damage, we require confirmation from your hire company whether or not they are seeking recovery from the third party.
Please be advised that you tax invoice provided only states charges for 284.55 EUR for the bumper and 121.95 EUR for outros.
Please note that we require confirmation of what the other charge is.
Please be advised that I have contacted the rental company on your behalf and have requested the outstanding information.
Please note that once we have received a response from the rental company, we will contact you accordingly'.
I am assuming the 'tax invoice provided' came from Gold Car, it didn't come from me. I still don't see what this has to do with me. I insured the loss of the excess. How they recover the loss is for them and my claim should not depend on that.0 -
Perhaps you would like to edit your first post. The company appears to be doing exactly the right thing. They are liable for the actual loss, not some made up figure by Goldcar. The dodgy party in this instance is GoldCar, not Leisure Guard.
Personally I made sure that I had a full and final invoice of the cost of the repair from my car hire company before I left their office.0 -
I took put car excess insurance with Leisureguard in June 2017 as recommended on this site and had an accident on the 1st day in Spain where someone drove in to the back of me, he admitted full liability, I had to pay 1100 euros to the hire company when I returned the car and I informed Leisureguard immediately who said the claim would be settled in 7 days. After months of chasing and threatening court action as Leisureguard refusing to pay until until they had reclaimed the money from the 3rd party they have finally paid but as the exchange rate is different to last June I am still out of pocket.......0
