Cant be beaten for convenience. Their efficiency comes into its own when dispensing over 10 drinks a day.

If one is time poor, the convenience of boiling water on tap is worth a lot of money and pays for itself.

We had one in our kitchen, we had it removed as it wasn't safe for children to operate, there was a red button and a cold button, you held down your desired button and cold or boiling water came out, there were zero safety features to prevent a child using the tap. It regularly stopped working as well.

We now have a kettle, which again has zero child safety features, but we would notice if they filled it up, plugged it in and turned it on!

We have a Quooker tap installed for 4 years with absolutely no problems. Quooker offer a service deal @ £65 including all parts. We decided to have this done, the engineer said it was in perfect condition, but he changed the element and filter as a customer service.

There is an effective safety lock, which works in a similar manner to that on a medicine bottle. If we had young children, I would not allow then to use the Quooker or a kettle.

At £65 a year I should hope it's had no problems - that's the cost of 3 kettles every year !

For that money you could even afford to have a spare kettle in the cupboard for when the normal one packs up at a most inconvenient time.

We looked at one in John Lewis. As the sales assistant pointed out, you could replace a decent kettle many times over for the price of one of these taps. And if you don't boil more than you need, there is also less waste.
Perhaps they would be good for people who fill the whole kettle just for one cup of tea!

Except of course that the water is not actually boiling so won't make a decent cuppa .

Ours was at boiling point, which meant it could only be used to make tea as just like with kettles the water is too hot for coffee.

How much energy do they use? I understand there's a reserve tank under the tap that is kept hot 24/7 - this must be pretty hot to enable boiling water at the touch of a button?

We have had kettles and worktops for about 55years in 3 different houses. There has never been an incidence of damage caused to a work surface which had anything to do with a kettle.

A Quooker is similar to a Thermos flask. Once the water is heated it stays hot a long time, heating at intervals to keep it warm. The water is boiling and when the tap is turned sprays out with some force and can splash hands.

However if you draw water it gets filled with cold water so has to heat again.
