Epson ink cartridges.

So I bought an Epson XP-432 a while back. I'm not a heavy user - though the blac in cartridge that came with the printer has ran out already - after literally 15 A4 sheets of printing .

So now the choice is - Official Epson XP-432 replacements or generic compatible ones.
Are there any pros and cons? Apart from price of course.

Also - has anyone got an actual recommended website (rather than just a random Amazon place) where I can buy them from. Thanks.

This 'free' ink supplied with the printer is designed not to last long..........small amount of ink!

The answer is use compatibles, around £20 a set or a whole lot more for branded ones. Ive used epson compatibles for years and apart from the odd dud set not had a problem. In future before buying a printer I always look for the cost of replacement cartridges before buying, that cheap printer on argos may be a bad purchase.

£20 a set for compatibles? More like £2.

My SX-225 spots the compatibles and comes up with a nag but still works. I must say that my pictures with this printer don't seem so good as the earlier one - I'm wondering it those gits at Epson deliberately muddy the prints when compatibles are in use. It could just be this set of compatibles are a bit MeH! though.

    £2? From where?

Originals are being quoted around the £45-50 mark and generics around £20 (though a number of reviews say they don't work - printer won't recognise the cartridge etc.). Hence the request for a website/company that someone has used before.

If using compatibles, watch out for Epson firmware updates - I'd used compatibles in my printer quite happily, then foolishly let Epson install a firmware update, and the printer no longer recognised the cartridges! So now I'm stuck with having to use genuine - Ebuyer normally cheapest, but also check Ebay. Must admit, photos I've printed with genuine ink look noticably better than using the compatibles.

I've used 7dayshop for a few years, never had a problem (my printer's about 8 years old. None of this fancy firmware update nonsense).

StinkyInk is fairly good as to telling what compatibles cartridges actually work.
I had to buy an Epson out of Argos last week, but Stinkyink informed me that compatibles did not work for the cheapest epson, so I moved up one.

Also, as an aside, keep the original empty Epson cartridges that come with a new printer. For the first year anyway.
Fire them back into it if the printer messes up and needs to be returned.

I've always used non-original-brand cartridges. The only difference I've ever noticed is that colours aren't as bright and accurate, and tend to fade sooner in sunlight.

I really think that printer manufacturers should be legally required to make their printers work with different brands of ink.

Imagine if every car manufacturer started selling their own petrol at £20 a litre, and designed their cars so that they wouldn't work if you filled them with anyone else's petrol.

If your printer cost less than £100 and refuses to let you use non-original-brand ink, it's probably going to be cheaper to send it to landfill and buy a different one.

Epson XP-432 is what I've got.

So it's not the cheapest - but yes, it's a sub £100 printer as it's only used sparingly (and never for photos) so wasn't worth buying an expensive one.

I bought Epson as someone said the in cartridges are one of the cheapest and that you can easily get -re-fills or generic ones.

Also the ink cartridges all have a no.29 on them.

Is that what the (29) means in this link?

I compare prices with Amazon, https://www.cartridgeking.eu/ and
    http://www.viking-direct.co.uk

Amazon usually comes out on top for my HP Photosmart C5380. Almost 8 years old and never used compatibles, which is why it is still as good as new and still knocking out perfect copies and photos.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
