Not since I became a Driving Instructor, no. :A
Thanks for making my point. Any decent driver cannot "accidentally" go over the speed limit.
Anyone who says they do, are admitting a much more serious offence; Driving Without Due Care And Attention.
This is precisely the reason I am in favour of compusory Re-Tests. I benefited greatly from the extra training I took voluntarily. Maybe if everyone did it, we could do away with the ridiculously low speed limits. (Yes, I agree they are stupidly low, but given the standards of driving around, for example, Nottinghamshire, where I see idiots doing things you wouldn't believe, I can see the reason they are there).
Rubbish. Every decent driver goes inadvertently over the speed limit at times. You should know that awareness of what is going on around rather than staring at the speedometer is FAR safer. And frankly, I think it is the slow drivers who drive 40 (whether in a 60, 50, 40 or 30 limit) who are so dangerous by creating frustration and impatience and risking overtaking. And before you say that drivers shouldn't be impatient and frustrated, we do not live in a perfect world!0 -

Wrong. It's nice to believe in the "everybody does it mentality" sometimes, though. You should know that awareness of what is going on around rather than staring at the speedometer is FAR safer.
Spot on. Staring at the Speedo is definitely not encouraged by me. In fact, it's the muppets that have to slow down for a speed camera who will be staring at it, hoping they'll get below the limit in timeAnd frankly, I think it is the slow drivers who drive 40 (whether in a 60, 50, 40 or 30 limit) who are so dangerous by creating frustration and impatience and risking overtaking.
Agreed 100% After Boy Racers, these are my least favorite drivers. And before you say that drivers shouldn't be impatient and frustrated, we do not live in a perfect world!
Obviously not :cool:0 -

Sorry but I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. In my view, most confident drivers have broken a speed limit at some point in their driving history.
In any event, if speed cameras are put in dangerous locations, surely advertising where they are and by drivers slowing down for them helps???? Isn't that why they are painted in high-vis colours?0 -
Speeding is speeding and there is never any excuse for that, unless you have a blue flashing light on your vehicle. So learn to lift your right foot a little slow down and SAVE my life. The excuse "I was only speeding a little bit" will not save anyones life when you hit them. If you can't drive within the law either get re-tested or don't drive at all.0

Oh dear, you sound like my mother ! Speeding doesn't kill, the frustration of being stuck behind someone like you might though !0 -
Of course speeding kills....0

hi all,
although i can agree that speeding is a bad habit i find it diffcuilut /nigh on impossible to belive that all "decent" (or some such simalr terminolgy used erailer) should never or will never exceed the speed limit. My drving instrator would occasionly exceed the limit as my father mother and my self all very diffrent drivers and drving for differnt reasons. to say that only emergnecy serives can drive fast is plain silly. eailer a women said she was in labour thats an emergency but she should not speed that must be contradictory. also what makes them able to speed are they better drivers? i doubt it the police test is not to hard. i have an advanced driving liscence at 18! does that mean i should speed i think not. and before anyones says i unsersatnd they must get places quickly but what quailfys those particlualr people??? further to this a speed camera is dangerours for many reasons yes sharp braking and ok maybe they should not be speeding anyway but why create that risk surly just knowing that you may be caught at any time by speed poice is a safer deterent? futher to that in staffordshire we use gasto camersa which can flash oncoming traffic (althought not convict) whcih can be blinging can thus cause a crash thats a great saftey idea isnt it. i knwo this sounds silly but speed doesnt really kill people its bad drving that kills people. speed may be bi product of bad drving but its not the only or even main factor of bad drving. fiinally it costs around £40,000 per camera site and some even more i geuss thats between 1.5 and 2 traffic cops each i know which i would prefer0 -

Most people speed but most people haven't killed anyone, driver error kills0 -
But the victims may not have been killed if the driver who made the error was not speeding. You said speed doesn't kill. I didn't say everyone who speeds kills. But of course speed can kill. Isn't something to argue about, it's a fact.0

ok, since i feel my point was misunderstood i get that speed kills but drivng error as said above is far more dangerous and drivers who are in general incompentent, but i belive a futher improvemnt to our road saftey and once gain its not speed cameras would be the govermnt using the money to fit esp as standerd on all new cars. its estiamted in ammeraica that 50% of fatal acidents would have been prvevnted by the use of esp. just a suggestion.0
