are you saying you've never ever gone over the speed limit?

Not since I became a Driving Instructor, no. :A
you don't accidentally trip through someone's window and make off with their belongings!:rotfl:

Thanks for making my point. Any decent driver cannot "accidentally" go over the speed limit.
Anyone who says they do, are admitting a much more serious offence; Driving Without Due Care And Attention.
This is precisely the reason I am in favour of compusory Re-Tests. I benefited greatly from the extra training I took voluntarily. Maybe if everyone did it, we could do away with the ridiculously low speed limits. (Yes, I agree they are stupidly low, but given the standards of driving around, for example, Nottinghamshire, where I see idiots doing things you wouldn't believe, I can see the reason they are there).

I would rather see more traffic cops on the road - I am against speeding but would like to see the thousands invested in these vans directed into the police traffic division. We all go a little bit over the speed limit momentarily. At least with a traffic cop they can weed out the real speeders and stop them and deal with them on the spot - can a camera van catch a drunk driver/ joyrider/ uninsured driver/ road tax dodger - No. I'm all for making our roads a safer place which needs more traffic officers.

    No.

Nor can they spot Housebreakers, Muggers, Vandals, Fraudsters, Paedophiles, Murderers, Embezzlers, Bigamists, Prostitutes, Bootleggers, Fences, Pirates, Pimps, Child-Abusers, Armed Robbers or Forgers.

That's because it's not their job.

Their job is to spot the so-called "clever" motorist, who has slowed down uncharacteristically for a speed camera (which ARE a nuiscance, I agree, as they only encourage people to obey the speed limit for a few yards, usually by making then slam on their brakes in an extremely DANGEROUS fashion) and, when passing these, doesn't know that he/she is being watched.

Put up a petition to ban speed cameras, and I will sign wholeheartedly, and probably make up a few names and addresses on the way, but these Camera vans actually do catch the idiots that think they are something special, and the law should not apply to them, as they are so great.

A few people will be caught due to confusion over 30/40 limits. When I was caught a few years ago I was intentionally exceeding the limit.

Speed camera are only catching people out who are going over the speed limit, thus breaking the law.
No they dont_they only catch the "honest" motorist who has legally registered their car and can be traced!

Lists all the mobile camera sites in most areas. I am in favour of more traffic police on the roads than to have sneakily hidden cameras catching out the 99.5% law abiding motorist.

Where do you get your 99.5% figure from. We've just done a traffic survey on a residential road near Lincoln and of over 5,000 vehicles checked 50% were speeding in the 30 limit. Is it any wonder the government is making so much easy money out of motorists!!!
  • Speed cameras do not exist if a driver is competant.

It's a bit like a charity box - it's big, it's obvious and you don't have to put money in it if you don't want to.
