Gas/Electricity Fixed Price 2019

Hi All,
Our current gas and electricity provider have offered us a fixed price until 2019 and I don't know whether to go for it or not? Three years seems like a long time to be locked into something?
The deal we have been offered is through First Utility and called First Fixed 2019.
If anyone could offer any help or advice that would be much appreciated...
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Go to a comparison website, enter your actual gas and electricity used for the past 12 months and see what is available for your usage and geographical area.
You can get your annual usage from your provider or be looking at your bills for the past 12 months and adding up how many kWh of energy you have used.0 -
It's a hard one, but the last time I tried working out the cost for a long term fix it would have cost me a hell of a lot more than three one year fixes - the fule price would have had to increase by over 12% a year. It actuall dropped so I was quids in by not going for it.
It's only you who can decide whether you want to fix your price for three years or gamble whether the price goes down or up, because that's exactly what the energy companies are doing.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Post the actual price per unit and standing charges .
If the loading over today's price is not much then i would fix .0 -
The charges are as follows
Electricity - 15.839p per kwh
15.10 per day standing charge
Gas - 3.116p per kwh
16.59 per day standing charge
Thanks for all replies0 -

That seems pretty high, but what are you paying currently?Stompa0 -
I have done one year fixed deals recently since prices dropped. I have not changed from June 17 fix with Scottish power, prices are higher for July, August and September 17 Fixes. Two year desks are about 20% higher than one year deals. I would not fix for more than 1 year.
As oil seems to have fallen in since the spring, i am not changing tariff at the moment.
Scottish power allow me to change tariff without penalty during the fix period.0 -
We are currently paying £61 a month.0

I did a price comparison and found one with Avro who I've never heard of that works out as follows:
Gas
2.415p per kwh
16.800 per day standing charge
Electricity
9.975p per kwh
19.425p per day standing charge
Would this work out better?0 -
Yes it would work out better .
But if you believe that energy prices will rise then the FU prices are reasonable .0 -
The second one is with Avro Energy and have never heard of them before so feel a bit wary about changing to them.
Thanks for everyone's help.0
